stay away from it! buy a known brand, even if it costs more – your priceless data worth few extra $$$. i thought that it is fault of my PC or hdd itself – turned out that NO, all my HDDs work perfectly inside other enclosures on the same PC. fortunately i had a software to get the data from my dead HDD. for testing purposes i put a couple of other working HDDs with no data into this enclosure – same disappointing result. could be the fault of a micro-chip (controller).
another big negative point – the USB port on this enclosure is not a standard mini-USB (Mini-B), but a big Type A receptacle – terrible solution – you will have to carry with you its cord too.

Had a laptop that died and got tired of maintaining it. HD was still good. Bought this case and now use the old HD to backup my new PC. Had to remove an adapter off the HD so pins would match. Simple, no brainer, includes screwdriver and cloth cover.

Do not buy. This item is a piece of junk. The construction quality is very poor and it did not work with either of my computers, likely a defective cable or connection panel. The reseller, DreamBargains is also very poor. Their return policy states that they will not refund the shipping costs and in addition I must ship it back to them at my expense. This is not feasible for a $7 item. I emailed DreamBargains asking for a full refund but have not heard from them. I will likely throw it in the trash and chuck the $10 I paid including shipping.

The product quality is substandard. USB connector doesn’t line up to allow inserting the connector; the IDE connector is very loose BUT with a little effort and a lot of attention not to break anything (it’s so flimsy) it works.
I managed to connect the replaced IDE Dell laptop drive to the laptop and back up all files. If you’re looking for a portable rugged external drive, get a Lacie (that’s what I use to store data).
