Nice looking product, nice aluminum construction.
Drive is not recognized on either a Vista or XP machine. Have already played with device manager and updated the driver for my brand new WD 320G Scorpio Hardrive.
I have invested about as much times as I am willing to for a $20 product, and I have to say that this product’s support online and the printed documentation that it comes with are both lousy.
Two stars for pretty $20 paperweight.

I had to replace the firewire that came with the enclosure in order for it to work. it does work but occasionally it doesn’t register at first. Most of the time it’s okay. it sometimes causes some applications to freeze when saving to the external. if the external is not plugged in and the application is open, this can happen when i plug in the external.

After a couple days of trying to find a decent HDD enclosure,I came across this one. it was one of the few legitimate looking ones, there are a lot of wierd ones.
but anyway, I am very happy with this case, it’s very simple, light, and the WD 250GB 2.5 SATA HDD that I bought fit with room to spare, which combined with the alluminum case makes for great heat dispersal. It stays relatively cool while I’m using it, and they also give you four little screws to secure the HDD to the “Motherboard” that fits in the case also. Once you have it all together, you just plug it into your computer, Partition the HDD, and then you’re ready to go, the USB makes it a nice plug’n'play device, that I’m sure most people use as a backup HDD, but I have my macbook operating off the external device right now, but that’s another story.
It runs surprisingly fast just being connected through the USB. My computer has been running very quickly with the way I have it setup right now.
The little blue light is also a nice touch, always letting you know when the HDD is working by flickering.
On another note, when I was first looking at this item, I was flipping through the pictures they have here, and the one with the “elegant” pen next to the device threw me off at first, I thought maybe the pen was a free gift or something, but then I realized it was just to show how elegant, sleek and sophisticated the device was which made me laugh. seemed kind of silly, but I guess that’s one of thier selling points though.
But I highly recommend this device for anyone looking for a portable HDD enclosure.

I know it is just a 2.5 inch enclosure but it is one of the better ones i have. I like the option of the esata port. The drive doesn’t run too hot.

I bought two of these to house the old laptop drives after doing upgrades. Quality product. I wish that I had spent a few more bucks and gotten the one with firewire though. Makes a big difference with file transfer times.
