I wasn’t expecting a whole lot from these speakers, but they are actually very good, especially when you consider the price. Much better sound than my $150 speakers from Creative, probably because the Creative speakers do not include a subwoofer. I like that an MP3 player can be plugged into them without unplugging the speakers from the computer, but you need to supply your own cable for that, they don’t include one.

These speakers look, feel, and sound good quality. I was able to remove it from packaging, connect it to my MP3 player, and use it in about 10 minutes.
The system has two inputs – one is a male and the other (auxiliary input) is a female. Intention is to be able to connect the speakers to a computer and also to an MP3 player. However, you will need a cable with two male ends to utilize the aux input.
The only negative I can think of is that the sub-woofer is too large for my computer desk.
Update 08/12/2009:
I have now set it up in our game room and have permanently connected an old (unused) MP3 player to it. The sub-woofer goes at the bottom of a small table and the speakers along with the MP3 player sit on top of the table behind a picture frame. Mostly hidden when not in use, but very accessible and useful when in use. We are really enjoying this system now and very happy with the product.

If you’re looking for an economically priced speaker system, this is it. I connect it to my iPhone while cleaning the house to listen to Pandora or practice my Korean using my Pimsleur programs. The sound is great but may become distorted if you try and ‘crank up’ the volume. The only thing I didn’t care for was the bulky shape/design. I suppose if used at a computer desk, it would be okay with the small speakers on either side of your monitor and the Bass hidden from view on the floor. As a standalone unit, it’s awkward. Can’t place it up against a wall (cables force it to jutt out and the smaller speakers have an angled design) and it has a bit of a dated “ATARI” look to them (not bad or good – but it’s the first thing that comes to mind when I look at it).

Altec Lansing VS2621 3-Piece Computer Speaker System delivers a really good sound quality without blowing your budget. The size is compact enough to fit smaller tables or shelves. The subwoofer gives good bass for it’s size (13 Watts). The 2 full range speakers are compact and deliver decent power (7.5 Watts each). There are many better 2.1 speaker systems out there but none of them are at this low price of Altec Lansing VS2621. And this system surely beats most 2.0 speaker systems in term of overall performance (as the subwoofer really make a difference). Perfect for PC/Laptop or MP3 player used in a small to medium size room.
Pros:
- Tone control adjustment dial (to customize to the type of music you are listening to)
- Secondary AUX input jack available which is very convenient (so you don’t have to unlinked the primary jack)
- Quite portable (eventhough the subwoofer is not that small or light, but much more compact to many other subwoofer out there)
- Very affordable (best value 2.1 speaker systems in this price range)
Cons:
- Power button is on the subwoofer (and not on the satellite speakers)
- Secondary UX input jack cable not included
- The cable between the satellite speakers are not very long
- Sound quality degrade as you continue to increase the volume beyond a certain point (i.e. don’t use it too loud)

I played my iPod Touch through these speakers and they did a good job with all kinds of music. Jazz, Rock, Classical- full spectrum sound (when the tone knob is adjusted properly) with enough clean volume to fill a small room. These speakers are probably not powerful enough for a large room/party, and they do distort at higher volumes, but then they weren’t designed for that purpose either.
These speakers didn’t sound quite as good as an older set of Altec Lansings I have connected to my computer, but those speakers are a little bigger, and, I think a little more powerful.
These speakers are compact, perfect for a small office, dorm room, etc., and for the quality, you can’t beat the price!
