Initial reactions I bought it because I want to do graphics processing of photos and video. I also found my windows machine a little glitchy: I didn’t like sitting down in front of the windows box, and I wanted a better experience. The Apple salesman promised me I “would be grinning ear to ear for weeks.” That hasn’t happened, but here are a few pros and cons:
POS
NO VIRUS, SPYWARE, AND LORD KNOWS WHAT. The papers have run stories about how the virus programmers are ahead of the anti-virus people in windows. I hate those ads from the anti-virus people that pop up on my windows screen. THIS ALONE MAKES THE APPLE !))))% WORTH IT!!!!!!!!!!! This is no fault of Appler, a gimme from their point of view, but nice anyway.
The sound is ntegrated and works well.
It runs windows, in case I want a walk on tyhe dark, diseased side.
1 TB disk is no fooling around.
The overall cost seems competitive with a Dell-Windows machine I bought. It’s much more compact than the Dell. No wired and other crap strewn about. nice.
The lack of peripherals and cancer of wires means the Imac is as portable as a …Bose radio. Priceless. I put the Imac in my living room next to my tv chair, but it can move easily to my bedroom or office.
CONS
There is a video describing how to use the Apple keyboard from a windows perspective, but ive not been able to find.
the usability of the apple interface does not seem as good as the windows, inherently. No right-clicking on screen items for options.
The ctrl key is avross the keyboard from the return key, so internet command require two hands.
The mail program supplied does not let me send or return emails from my gmail account. ity is dysfunctional.
the supplied safari web browser does not let me open more thasn one (1) window, necessitatinfg closing the window when i want to check on something elsewhere on the web.
the apple keyboard seems a bit too small – note these typos. it is not necessary to make it so small. people don’t put the keyboard in their pockets. design gone wild. should be 1 inch bigger. id buy one today if available.
iworks seems difficult to use.
the dvd player, i can’t see how to eject the dvd easily.
The type size on the screen seems too small to read. I like to sit back and look at the large 27 screen TV-style. The size of the font has me craning my neck constantly and peering at the screen. I think I see similar behavior in IMac users.
Overall, I find Windows software better designed, except that in practice it does not work as well in certain rrspects. Intyertnet eplorer with multiple windows beats the hell out of safari with its one window, except that E8 hangs after abut 6 windows are open. But at this point I favor my windows machine for internet resdearch.
I gave the IAC 3 stars because the software problems as supplied seem easily fixable and there is no excuse for them. Ditto the undersized keyboard and hidden instruction video. Kick some ass, Jobs!

Why does it take 2 – 5 weeks to ship this machine that can be bought from every Apple store immediately?

I hope this model just has only a few software problems. I received this 27 inch model on a Tuesday and it stop working on Saturday. It has not worked as fast as I expected when I first used it..
I was shopping on amazon when the wheel of death started and when I hit force quit it quit everything. I have had two iMACs before and have had no trouble with either or my Mac Book. The tech at Mac said that it might be a hardware problem. Right now I have it in for repairs and hope they can save my 4000 photos,I transfered to it from the Mac that I still have ,and removed every thing on it to put up for sale. Talking to some people I have heard of a problem with Snow Leopard, that they are working on.
I have to wait 7 to 10 days for the results so will find out then hopefully what the problem is.
11/15/2009 While I seem to catch some criticism for not backing up my photo’s from comments. I do not trust external hard drives as I have two different brands fail, and after going through my past burned CD’s and DVD’s I found out I didn’t loose as many photos as I first had reported. I do back up my photo’s after a certain amount of time, but did not expect a new MAC to crash in 5 days. The hard drive was replaced under warranty and now the unit has operated as I expected it to from the beginning.According to the tech that replaced the hard drive,he stated that it was probably bad when I received it.
If this unit continues to perform as it does now I will be completely satisfied. Sorry but cannot change rating on Amazon as far as I know.

OK, firstly I want to say that the 5 star review is only there because you have to give the rating.
I am not rating this device per say, I am giving information that helps people understand a functionality of the device.
I was going to purchase this computer with the understanding that I can connect my PS3 and or Xbox 360 to the machine via adapters. Specifically a Mini Displayport to DVI adapater connected to a DVI to HDMI adapater which would then connect to the HDMI from my PS3 or Xbox 360. It was also my understanding that this functionality is available on the 27 inch models only and not the 21.5 inch models.
After a few phone calls to Apple themselves I got all this info put together.
Yes, the 27 inch model does accept input through the Mini Displayport and the 21.5 inch models do not.
However, after talking with a sales rep, who brought one of Apple’s engineers into the call, I have learned that this functionality will not exactly work as I was previously told it would. He said for one, that the adapters would not bring the signal into the monitor from PS3’s or Xbox 360’s and two, that I would need another device, the name of which escapes me at this time, in order to hook it up to the monitor. This other device however would not do 1080p; it would only do 640×480 or something like that.
He basically said that the input into the 27 inch monitors is so you can hook up your laptops and such for the benefit of having the nice 27 inch screen.
He recommended that I purchase a Mac mini and hook it up to a 1080p HD TV through a DVI to HDMI adapter and then hook my PS3 and Xbox 360 to that TV.
So all in all, if your looking to hook up your consoles to an iMac you still do not have that option. Well you do, but at such a resolution that it wouldn’t be worth it anyways.
Apple, if your reading this, PUT AN HDMI input on the iMac’s. Your customers will thank you.
Its a shame to have an awesome display and not have the ability to hook up things to it that matter. And since the iMac also doesn’t have a Blue Ray player this would allow for it to have one through the HDMI port via a Blue Ray player or a PS3. I mean, could you imagine watching a blue ray movie on an iMac? Stunning to say the least.

I am very excited with this new imac 27 inch model. Few months back i was not able to buy the 24inch because of lack of money. Amazon emailed me about the new imac and i went to Apple store and fell in love at first sight with the stunning graphic quality of2560×1440 HD which is very higher then HD TV.
I was planning to buy quad processor and hook up with TV but when i went in the store i didn’t liked the whole system looked so dull.
From 1499 to 1699 + Tax what you get is 27″ screen, 1 TB of hard drive and 3.06 GHz of CPU, SdHC slot with a very sexy magic mouse feels the same as you are moving pages from iphone, Snow leopord, wireless keyboard. The screen doesn’t get as hot as 24′
Some flaws-:
-Snow leopord makes the rebooting time slow Approx 54 seconds where as leopord is just few seconds.Overall faster processor. Called customer service and had excellent excellent experience with that also and mentioned engineers are working on that and this would be resolved soon.
-Pricey-$1700/- but you get high end computer and best of all. You can get the same deal with the PC for $900 + blue ray player.Yoy pay $99/year for mobile me and some more bucks for extended service plan.
-Wish we had same applications as iphone.
-A blue ray play would have been nuts in the cream. But Hd is almost same as Blue ray player.
So overall i liked the system and main reason i don’t have to worry about is the antivirus, anti spyware. I bought mine from Best Buy with 18 months no interest. If you fall in love with this new imac, get some good deals.
Still learning Mac. Very user friendly. If you have any questions, please feel free to discuss.
