These speakers are very solidly constructed; they are heavier than I would have imagined for such small units. One of the other reviewers said these speakers are “tinny”, and to some extent, I agree. They are short on bass response (they are not ported), but they make up for it with clear, crisp highs and good mids. I intended to use these as my surround-back speakers, but for the time being I will continue to employ my bass-reflex KLH BTF-220’s for this task. I think with time these could warm up nicely, and they would likely work very well on my patio. At this price, it’s not worth it to me to return them; I’ll keep them for future use.

Yesterday we install a pair of the RTR speakers on an the outside bar of a neighbor. i was a bit exceptical at the beginning of the installation, mainly because of the mix reviews the speakers had.

mount them on the wall, i would say a good 8 feet from the ground.

we hook them up to an old Philips stereo my neighbor had (at the back it said 26W) but had an aux input. we put an ipod, crank up the volume...and WOW.

that what we said for around 2 hours that we were listening to music. we simply couldn't believe that for 25 bucks, the sound we were getting.

some reviews say that "tiny sound" , my guess is that it depends on the amplifier you hook them up.

even at that height, we were listening to Salsa, we got a hint of bass.

i also purchase a pair and im gonna hook it up to an old home theater receiver, and we are thinking of adding another pair.

they come with a lot of extras (cable, wall mount, some rubber pads, etc)

great speaker...you are not gonna regret it.

After reading the reviews I had my doubts as to the sound I was going to get. It amazed me I listen to these speakers on my patio all weekend and could not find one bad thing to say. May be a little lite on the bass but really no complaints,and if I had one then all I had to do was look at the price tag. I installed mine under the eves on the back of my house about 10ft in the air pointed in the direction of my patio which is about 12ft away. I have them hooked up to a Pioneer SX650 about 35 watts per channel pluged my laptop in to it put on ITunes and enjoyed. You could hear them over by the pool with no loss in sound quality. I listen to 60’s and 70″s music and was very pleased with the sound. I have a very good stero system in my rec room so it’s not like I listen to cheap stuff and don’t know what good sounds like. But for the patio this really will do just fine,as a matter of fact I was very impressed.

I used these speakers for the past year, either as rear sorround sound speakers or as main speakers connected to a class D amplifier while adding a subwoofer to fill in for the void low end frequency response. I can not complain as overall construction, sound clarity and power handling far exceed those of the “Cheap Chinese Specials sold for $10 – $20 by either BestBuy, BrandsMart or the now defunct Circuit City… Just adding a decent subwoofer resolved most of the frequency response issues! (in my case I used the RTR44 speakers with either a Jensen 10″, an Advent wireless type and an in-wall “Generic brand” 10″, all powered subwoofers, with different… however acceptable results). One can get great sound out of these speakers just thinking outside the (RTR44) box…

These speakers do create sound, but when compared to my mitsubishi speakers from 1984, they sound very tinny and hollow. the sound is not rich and not very pleasant to listen to if you’re used to something better.
