We have replaced a 10-year-old unit which my wife loved. But this B&D is lighter, quieter, and seems to work better than the old one; it has plenty of suction for the jobs we've reserved for a hand-held like this. Because its nose is smaller, it is easier to get into normal spaces, and the slide-out 'snout' makes tight spaces a snap. <br /> <br />Opening it to empty the cup also seems quite smooth. <br /> <br />I am particularly pleased: When she decided to tackle a spill right behind me as I am reading the paper, the unit doesn't sound like an MD-80 in distress.
