Overpriced and cannot print 2-sided.
The current state-of-the-art for printers in this price range is double-sided printing. This one isn’t capable. There are several otherwise similar products that will do double-sided. Get one of those instead

Don’t buy this item unless you like to be frustrated trying to get it to print. It’s only redeaming feature is it’s wifi. This is another product that was put into production without having adequate development. I’m looking for a replacement after having owned and tried to operate my Brother for less than six months.

I just bought this printer a couple of hours ago to replace my antique HP G85 all-in-one which I loved. But the paper feed crapped out, meaning I had to babysit it and pull each page out as soon as it would finish printing, or it would jam, and besides it was very expensive for ink because the color cartridge had all three colors in one cartridge, so if one color ran out, they all did!
I still have some documents that I printed with the HP just before disconnecting it. One was of the fireboat house on the Embarcadero here in San Francisco, clearly showing the SFFD on the front of the building. I tried printing this same document using the Brother and the image was extremely dark, the contrast was poor and I could never read the SFFD regardless of how I tweaked the settings.
Also, my HP allowed me to print in draft, normal or fine mode. This one does not appear to have that functionality – it only allows me to select “photo” or “fine” – so it prints really slowly!
So far the manual has not helped. I am hopeful that this is just a learning curve issue, and that I will be able to resolve it, but to be honest I am already quite disappointed.
I should say, I had another document (a treasure hunt clue with several photographs forming a picture puzzle), and those actually look pretty good – the print quality is better than on the HP. Go figure!

The Brother MFC-6490 has proven to be all the printer I expected. Easy to set-up & use, fast, accurate, and reliable. I highly recommend this printer.

This printer replaced our HP 7300 series. I am happy that I have the larger ability to print/scan documents, yet the machine still takes up a small footprint. Holds a decent amount of paper, more than the HP could! Print speed could be a little faster, but I do not print 100’s of pages at a clip so it is fine for me. If you are looking for a printer that can handle larger prints and scans, for the price, I do not think you can beat this one. Plus it comes with a 2 year warranty vs the normal 1 year with others. Overall I am happy with my purchase. (printer is connected via a wired network)
