I’ve shopped with these people for a long time and have never had anything but good service….

I used this cable for running Mac OS X Migration Assistant from a G4 iMac with System 10.5.8 to an i7 iMac with System 10.6.2 .
I had no problems whatsoever. The cable easily and securely fit into the Firewire 400 port on the G4 and into the Firewire 800 port on the i7.
The cable itself is sturdily built, especially considering the price, but the one I received differs cosmetically from the product description above. My cable has clear plastic jacketing and the braided shielding is visible. Personally, I think it looks better than the opaque off-white cables in the product image.
Bottom line: indispensable for anybody migrating from a Firewire 400 Mac to a Firewire 800 Mac.

I used this cable to use the Migration Assistant tool from my old Imac G5 to my current 2009 model. Worked perfectly.

I bought this cable to use with the Migration Assistant in my new 17-inch 2.66GHZ MacBook Pro. I needed to transfer data from my older Mac, a 2002 Powerbook G4. I tried transferring my files by plugging both Macs to my Airport Extreme Base Station; unfortunately, this method of transfer proved ultimately to be too slow.
So, I got this cable, plugged the end for Firewire 400 into my Powerbook, and the other end for Firewire 800 into my Macbook – presto! All of the data I wanted to transfer was successfully done so using Firewire Target Disk Mode (Note: if you are unable to restart in Target Disk Mode by holding down the “T” key, go into System Preferences –> Startup Disk).
Overall the transfer took less than half an hour. I am very pleased at how this cable made the transfer process both technologically efficient AND inexpensive.

I originally bought a 6 pin to 9 pin cable from the Apple store. They charge $29.99 plus tax. I then went home and ordered this cable. Just as good for close to one third the price.
