Roger, thanks so much for your objective review. But I am really in need of a new printer–the last 3 HPs have been bitter disappointments. If not HP and not Canon’s latest (7600)–then who makes the best MFN, scanning, printing, copying, faxing–and what model should I be looking at Thankyou.

Canon error 6A00 appeared on screen within days, and the printer was broken.
Online searching indicated that this error is related to a jammed transport mechanism.

Switching from and disappointed with the short life span of my last 3 HP printers, I was at first very pleased with this printer, computer interface works well scanning and printing, fax system is good, however to make copies takes forever, as this printer is constantly resetting itself, adjusting print head or whatever it does. But the deal breaker is no ink is available in any stores ( I am in an urban area with lots of choices). We had to buy on-line and were stuck waiting 2 weeks with no printer as well the ink is very expensive. For this reason alone I would pass on this.In this day and age why are home printers the weak link in all home technology?

I’ve had the Pixma MX7600 for a few months now and it been a disappointing experience to say the least. First off, the printer is extremely noisy and shakes so much when it prints that I had to put wedges under the file cabinet it sits on (I didn’t have this problem with my last printer). It takes at least a minute to start printing after I click the “print” button. After I click “print” the printer starts shaking and making a lot of noise even before it actually starts printing. The quality of the photos is HORRIBLE to the point where I have to order my photos online from Kodak rather than print them out myself.
To add insult to injury the inktanks ARE NOT recyclable. Prior to buying the Pixma MX7600 I did some research and found out that these inktanks can’t be recycled by simply dropping them off at an electronics store because the inktanks have a microchip in them. I then went to Canon’s website where they put on this whole song and dance about how much they care about the environment and how they recycle all their products. Yesterday I e-mailed Canon customer support to ask for an address where the empty ink tanks could be shipped and was told that Canon does not recycle ANY of their inktanks and I need to recyle them locally. When I told them that these particular inktanks can’t be recycled locally because of the microchip they basically told me that they don’t give a s**t. So much for honesty in advertising.
This is the LAST Canon product I will ever buy. The quality sucks and they lied through their teeth about being eco-friendly.

Having owned a 7600 for a year now my biggest complaint is that it goes through ink very rapidly and the heads get clogged very easyily, forcing you to use even more ink to do a cleaning about every-other print job if it sits for more than a couple days without printing. This has always been my biggest complaint about ink-jet printers which is why I also have a color laser printer for most of my color printing. I bought this primarily for faxing and scanning but even those features wont work if any of the ink cartridges are empty. A year later, after running all over town to 6 different stores of major office-supply chains I discovered sadly, that ink is only available online. Pretty annoying!
