If I new then what I know now, I would have bought the Canon for twice the price. The Sigma sounds great but is not reliable. It is not 100% compatable. Error signs for no reason! The instruction manual is ridiculous (very very brief). Even my Flash Photo instructor could not figure it out. At least Canon has a book! If you are hurting for cash and need a flash this may be a reasonable purchase. It does have tons of options. To be fair, I have not tried the Canon Flash. Who knows, it may have problems too.

This was $360 item last week and now at 420??. it seems Amazon is bumping prices on every item I have in cart including books and hardware , Amazon wants higher profit margin in bad economy.
I am sure I will find it cheaper somewhere, I am avoiding Amazon for sure.
I don’t know who sells this at $700 as Amazon claims to original value but been to many retails stores and no one had it for above $420. I finding better deals at new egg . com or at costo even with taxes and shipping .
If you notice, Amazon is first increasing prize by 25% on many items and then bring it down in next few days by few cents to give you a feel that it ‘went down’ ???

I use this as the main flash with a 430EX II as a slave, to shoot my paintings. New camera, new flashes, so far in this short period of time I’m satisfied with the preformance.

I got the Canon 580EX II Speedlite on the recommendation of a friend’s father. I was looking at the 420 (because it was cheaper)but he told me to go with the best. I did, and I love it. My pictures shine. I’m a newbie, so I’m still getting used to it. But when I’m out doing my thing, I look more like a professional photographer with it than sticking with the in-house flash. I know this is shallow, but I live in L.A.
Once I really learn how to use it, I know I’m gonna be doubly happy I got it. You can’t go wrong getting the best. This is the best.
