I bought the coby 233 at a grocery store. I had read all the bad reviews on this black one and the silver one. My logic was that the 233 line came out in 2007. I hoped by now they may have corrected the problems. I was wrong I guess. My unit was fine at first, quiet and a above average progressive scan picture. Then I began to notice slight freezes in the playback. Then it froze all at once. The only way to make it play again was to unplug it for a few minutes then start over. Now it locks up on every disc I play about twenty minutes into the film. I just sat in my chair as everyone left the room to snicker at me for buying it. I packed up the unit to return today. Coby is a big company, thier thing is electronics at good prices, but why bother to make a poor item like this. I was so down I didnt get another one to try, so maybe the next one would have been great but I couldnt take the risk…I just couldnt do it.

I bought this for a tv we have that we almost never watch dvds from. I disliked the unit immediatel because it’s remote only worked from about 6 feet away (if that). Then, after 4 months (right out of warranty) the thing stopped working altogether. I know this is an inexpensive unit but 3 dvds? I tried several to make sure it wasn’t just dirty DVDs, etc.. Seriously low quality here.
