If you want an elegant and solid piece of lighting “furniture,” this is not it. If you want an inexpensive and extremely portable utility lamp, read on. If you want a lamp that will fill a room (or even a large table) with bright light, this is not it. If you want a lamp that can readily be positioned and adjusted to give you an extemely bright, focused reading or working light within a diameter of a foot or two, read on. If you plan to use the lamp in one place where it can easily be plugged into an outlet and there will no chance of stepping on or tripping over the cord, you can make a better choice. If you want to be able to use the lamp where there is no access to an outlet, or where a cord would be a hazard, or when no electric current is available, or where extreme ease of portability is a key consideration, you’ve found a product that will meet your needs. In the past, I’ve had to use cumbersome LANTERNS (battery-powered incandescent, or even kerosene) in such circumstances–THAT is the type of lighting to which this product is an alternative. I like this product much better, and I’ll bet those who carp at its limitations would, too, if they would see it in those terms.

This thing should not even be called a reading lamp. It doesn’t give off enough light to do anything, let alone read.
The lamp base is weighted with sand and it’s not enough to keep it from tipping over on the carpet and it becomes the leaning tower of reading lamps. It’s made of very cheap plastic that even my cat can tip over. [..]
Overall, it’s pretty much a piece of junk. Certainly not worth the money I paid for it.

The light could be just a little brighter but was adquate. I might have given four stars but the delivery time on this item was poor and the product was only forthcoming after I mentioned that I might cancel the order and get a more timely delivery from ebay.
