Item is probably great, but returned it for refund without using it, because I must use with standard accessory Crane brand demineralization filter insert. This standard filter is inserted easily into the “animal-shaped” (penguin, frog, etc) Crane humidifiers. However, this filter does not fit at all into this “tear-drop”-shaped Crane humidifier. I called up Crane customer service and rep said, yes, correct, it will not accept the filter. He said there is no other Crane filter made to fit this “tear-drop”-shaped humidifier. I must use a filter with my water quality. Thus, however good the humidifier undoubtedly is, it’s moot because I had to return it for refund simply because there’s no water filter for it.

Right as you read the description of the unit you think “Wow, 2.3 gallons!” Not so fast. It’s a “2.3 gallons output per 24 hours” thing. As in – it can pump out 2.3 gallons in a certain amount of time. The actual capacity is a whooping 0.9 gallons.
Now, that would probably be enough for most people, but I do not like to be “tricked”.
As far as the operation of the unit – I really like it. It is indeed very quiet and it does indeed output a good amount of mist. I am not evaluating a long term use because I just got it.
One star due to misleading advertisement.
More later (on the longevity or lack thereof)

I had previously owned Crane’s penguin-shaped humidifier, and purchased this one as a replacement after that one stopped working after a few years. This product works well as a humidifier. However, the water tank has a major design flaw. The tank on this model cannot be set on a counter upside down (with the filling cap on top); it can’t even be rested upside down, or it will fall over.
I have had problems in the past with tap water leaving white dust over objects, so I use distilled water in the humidifier. With the penguin, I could just sit the water tank on the counter for filling. However, with this humidifier I had to hold the tank in one arm while using the other arm to pour the water.
This would just be an annoyance, however I just ruined my humidifier thanks to this design flaw. Tonight I sat the tank upside down on the counter for a second while I uncapped a new water jug. Before I could think to catch it, the tank rolled on to its side and then fell on the floor and shattered. I thought that the flat edge of the handle would be enough to hold the empty tank in one place for 5 seconds, but I was wrong.
I have contacted Crane about this issue, so hopefully this will be fixed in future versions. This flaw shouldn’t be as big of an issue if you fill your tank at the sink. You can also try using a towel or something to sit the tank on.

I bought this humidifier for work over a month ago because of great reviews and the low price. I am very pleased! The local Bed/Bath/Beyond carries several of the Crane children’s models and others including the Air-O-Swiss 7135 which I have at home and totally love! I ordered the Crane on Amazon and appreciate it’s small size, although that means more frequent trips to the water faucet. It is very quiet; everyone stopping by is amazed at how quiet it is and how much mist it puts out. I also like that I won’t have to deal with filters on this model. Excellent product!

This is a great humidifier. It’s so quiet (there’s no fan) and it looks cool. Cleaning is not an issue because all you have to do is put some white vinegar in the bowl and shake it around and then let it sit. I’m buying a second one for my office at work.
