Just got into the Geo caching and thought that this would be a handy map for me since I live in CA and do a lot of traveling in the western states. Havn’t had the opportunity to use it yet since I am new to using a GPS but hope to use it in a few months.

This was my first mapping software purchase, so I wasn’t really sure what to expect and ended up disppointed. I purchased this as an upgrade to the map that came with my Oregon 400t. I feel like the software is second rate. I’m also disappointed with the map itself. Some trails I thought for sure would be on there are missing and the trail lines are so faint they are hard to see anyway.
Not worth the money

this really has a lot more to it the the regular topo map from garmin. on the regular garmin us topo maps i got everything from the rockie west on a 2gb card. with the 24k topo i had to use 4gb card for just the 4 states and i had to leave off the bottom of california (below la) off to get it to fit. I put it in a rino 530. the only down side is it take about two to three minutes longer to start up.

Unfortunately, the supplier was unable to ship the DVD on time so I received it after I departed for my trip to the west coast. I ordered it from Zebrasays and they turned around and had it shipped from another reseller who didn’t ship it on time.
When I attempted to install the maps on the Garmin Oregon 300 I did discover that one micro SDHC memory card is not enough to store the data for all four states: CA, NV, WA and OR. When I returned from my trip, and received the DVD, I was able to load all but CA on the card in the Oregon 300. At this scale I’ll have to have memory cards for smaller groups of states, a better solution than deleting data and installing the maps for other states each time I travel to another state, e.g., from NV to CA. I bought three more 4 GB micro SDHC cards for $12.00 each online.
I installed the Garmin BaseCamp software on my PC to upload the maps on my Garmin and view them on my PC and the 1:24K detail is good but I have not checked out the accuracy of the natural and manmade terrain and symbols. One definite problem is the viewing of roads, trails, water sources and other features when viewing in terrain in BaseCamp using GPS Map Detail (scale) below .7 mile. At .5, .3 and .2 detail roads, streams and other detail are shown. At .7 mile detail and larger the detail of these features is lost. The terrain interval is at 100′ and only major highways (intersates and state)and paved secondary roads are rendered, making .7 map detail and above pretty useless for off road use. There may be a way to change this in the software setting but it is not done by changing the preferences. My next action is to go online and check the Garmin knowledge center.

Great product easy to use but does not run on serial GPS like the Etrex TrexLegend serial version.
