I’ve been waging a long time battle with the dust mites in my room. They tend to aggravate my sinuses, which in turn affect my sleep quality.
I used to have a different Hamilton Beach filter that was ~$50 retail, and required new filters every 3 months. A couple months ago when I went to replace it, I saw they didn’t offer the replacement filter anymore at a reasonable price. That’s when I stumbled upon this filter. I wouldn’t recommend this for someone suffering from dust allergies.
You can still hear it on quiet mode, so I usually leave it off until the evening hours…and then I crank it to high for a bit in my bedroom before turning it off. It seems to do the job well enough, but if you suffer from dust allergies the way I do, I’d recommend more environmental controls rather than plunking down money on a low end filter like this.
Encase your sheets and pillows with mite-proof coverings. Vacuum all surfaces regularly, and wash sheets regularly. These will be more effective than this filter. And as a side bonus, your room will always be clean

I actually was expecting a better quality permanent filter but was disappointed. It a filter made of nylon or something like that surrounded by cardboard. It would have be far better to have made the filter washable and better quality. I do not believe that this filter will continue to work well just by vacuuming it, just will not hold up and I am not sure if the filter is replaceable.

Hamilton Beach 04383 True Air Allergen-Reducing Air Cleaner is true to its title. It DOES clean the air and reduce the allergens. I put this in the room where my Boston Terrier hangs out and has the most amount of windows and sure as heck the particles floating around in the sun were gone in a few hours! I literally could breath the difference! I wish I could explain it better, but all I can say was that it smelled and felt much cleaner…almost like a crisp morning in the fall. Air quality was truly different. The machine is not loud at all. It has 3 different speeds, but I found the lowest speed works fine if you leave it on all day. My whole family notices a difference. Very good product and it has a permanent filter…woo hoo!

This air cleaner is super quiet on low. It’s nice have an air cleaner that isn’t noisy like a hair dryer. I recommend this one.

This does a good job of filtering particles out of the air. It has a green benefit since the filter is a cleanable permanent one. When you clean it you will find a fair amount of dust/dirt/pollen/etc. And it is easy to clean, all you have to do is vacuum the filter. There are better filters out there, but for the size and cost it’s a good deal.
