Why is this TV Tuner (Hauppauge WINTV 2250 w/ MCE kit) $40 more than the retail as listed on the hauppauge website and $50-$70 more expensive than any other website as of 08/28/08? What is Amazon pulling? Reduce the price and I’ll buy it!

Absolutely rediculous, I’d have to agree. While this card did receive the ‘Gold Standard’ rating from PC Magazine, the fact that Amazon is charging $40 more than the Hauppauge online store for an identical product is mind boggling.
From the Hauppauge page:
WinTV-HVR-2250 TV tuner with
Windows Media Center remote control kit
$149.00
Other online stores have it as low as $125. So why would I buy here?
I give the product 4 stars, but Amazon only 1 for trying to rip us off. 4 stars for the product because of the dual tuner limitation (or at least confusion). So I compromised and marked 3 stars.

The Hauppauge 2250 card works great! The Media Center remote control died about 3 days after it was installed.

I don’t usually write reviews on items that I purchase, but this is one that I can’t ignore.
This device works fine for ATSC from an antenna, but it doesn’t tune in any of the 150+ Comcast clear-QAM channels in my area (Loudoun Co., VA).
If you want a clear-QAM tuner that works in Northern VA, buy the HDHomeRun by Silicon Dust, it just works.

Installation was not hard, although the remote control drivers did not install properly on the first try.
Overall I’m happy with it, except the video onscreen shows up a bit washed out compared to what I get directly on the TV or via the DVR. I didn’t see controls to tune the brightness on Media Center.
