I made the mistake of buying a Hewlett Packard Pavilion, and have been paying for that mistake ever since. The first hard drive crashed within weeks of the purchase, and though the replaced the hard drive, it took almost a month to get the computer back. It still randomly shuts down, sometimes right in the middle of working. It frequently will go to sleep and will not wake up, and hours of calls the the Hewlett-Packard “Help” Desk came to nothing. Now the machine is out of warranty and they won’t do a thing to help, despite the fact that the machine still continually reboots itself at random moments.
Don’t just take my word for it, though, check other review sites, like [...], where HP scored a whopping 1.25 out of 10 for customer satisfaction. Even CNet only gives the Pavilion a 2.5 out of 5 stars.
Save your money, and buy a Sony. That’s what I plan to do as soon as I can rationalize buying a new computer. At that point I will take great pleasure in tossing this HP into the trash.

I bought this computer from Amazon two weeks ago for $699. My daughter saw it and bought it for $549. yesterday from Amazon. Amazon will not match that price and give me a $150. refund. While we were on hold(about twenty minutes) with customer service they jumped the price to $899. Now it is back to $699. I love the computer but would have liked to know that they no longer price guarantee for any length of time.

I will update this review at a later time.
My ASUS was DOA and it was a rather bad experience…..AMZN saved the day.
Feel free to read my review on my ASUS that is now dead and buried and sent back after 15 hours of ownership and that 15 hours was a NIGHTMARE!

I have got this HP notebook due to the software I need to use. I usually use Mac and like its stability and smoothness. When I used windows (it was windows Me and XP) years ago, it was not really a good experience… But this time is different. Windows 7 works solid and reliable. The machine is fast enough for its price, and I was surprised how light it weighs. If you carry your computer around, this is nice. You cannot complain about this machine since it deserves credit for its functionality, reliability and the price cost. For average user like me, this is good.
Only annoying thing is you have to make your own recovery disks (3 dvd blank disks you have to prepare). There is no os disk so this is important to do. It does not matter except for waiting a long time to burn those 3 dvd disks…
