I need a video recorder that has a built-in tuner. Not devices that require a converter box that costs money per month to rent from a cable company.

this unit does not have tuner, which means it can not connect with any TV antenna or cable connection directly. therefore, it can not work with most of the home setup. It says it can work with a special cable settop box. However, the title of the product does not say so clearly or explicitly. therefore, I had to go through the trouble to return this unit, wasted my time of having a useful VCR in time as I planned. Very disappointed with this purchase and this purchase experience.

Very grateful! Couldn’t find this item in the stores (all out of stock) and I refused to get another brand, as I trust this brand so much. Never had a problem with my previous JVC dvd/vhs player, I just wore it out after 10+ years. JVC is a great brand.
Overall transaction thru amazaon was fab! Never disappointed!

We are very happy with this DVD/VHS player. It is very user friendly and
plays dvd’s and vhs tapes clearly without difficulty. This price was very
reasonable also.

I bought this as a present for my girlfriend because she had a bunch of old video tapes without a vcr to play them on and her dvd player was terrible (and she lost the remote to it). I shopped around and found this to be the best mix of quality / price.
After using it a few times, it does everything as advertised. Auto-tracking on the tapes was fast and great. We haven’t had one that looked bad yet. The remote is super easy to use, and it’s very simple to switch between dvd and vcr. The picture’s clear (or as clear as a vhs / dvd can be) and the audio is good.
When rewinding vhs tapes, sometimes it makes a really loud noise (to be expected when rewinding at high speeds), but it’s never damaged any tapes. The only other possible con is the lack of a built in timer for vhs recording, but come on, get with the times! If you’re looking to record programs, get a dvr!
The only reason I gave this 4 stars instead of 5 is I am used to blu-ray / HD quality so I can’t justify giving this 5 stars. If I were in the market for another dvd/vcr, I would buy this again.
