…AGAIN!
I realize the soul of this county has been sold to China, I get that. The vast majority of EVERYTHING has been outsourced by greedy SOBs that don’t care what cost their actions take on us, its the bottom line…I get that as well.
But this is the second piece of junk that I’ve gotten in a week, and now I know what not to do…
NEVER BUY ANYTHING DIRECTLY FROM CHINA EVER AGAIN!
I’ve got a piece of garbage iPhone clone (what a mistake that was…the real one is coming soon), and now this.
This thing was basically just a little USB plug with a little section for the card…the USB plug is the wrong size! It will not fit into a USB plug! How can they screw that up?! The one I got is not even branded! Its a copy!
I’m sure that the distributor will gladly have me send a ยข50 piece of garbage half way around the world (at a cost of 5x what the thing is worth), but hey, its too late, I’ve already thrown it in the trash.
I’m only buying local from now on…this was a good lesson!

I’ve been attempting to be a satisfied user of this microSD reader for some time now. Despite my best efforts, I am now resorting to writing this review, as there seems to be no escaping the conclusion that this product does not work.
I originally bought one of these as part of Kingston’s 8GB mobility kit. It worked fine for about 2 weeks. During this time, I probably swapped my card out of the USB reader into the SD adapter and back, maybe once a day. After about 2 weeks, machines stopped recognizing the card when I was using it with the USB reader. The card itself was still fine. I tried several different machines. I tried reseating the card. I tried to look for dust or debris on the contacts. Nothing helped.
Kingston technical support was very responsive, in that they swapped my defective reader for a replacement promptly. The replacement also worked, for about 1 week, under the same conditions of use. Then I had the same problems again.
I decided to try one more replacement, which Kingston technical support was glad to provide. This time, because I really just want to access my data, I decided to leave the card in the USB reader. No more swapping in and out to use the SD adapter. Things worked OK for maybe 3 weeks or so. Today the reader has ceased to function yet again.
I am forced to conclude that this USB reader just does not function reliably. If you are looking to have reliable USB access to the data you carry on your microSD/microSDHC cards, I have to advise that you look elsewhere.

Not much else to say – Used it when I first recieved it; it worked well several times. Kept it on my desk, and now a couple of months later does not work at all (cards double checked and are OK, and tried on three different computers) BEWARE!

This is consistent with Kingston’s usual quality. What I really like about this is that it is tiny. With the growing array of cords, adapters, and other stuff I carry around with me, it is nice to have a product that takes up only slighly more space than a cough drop in my little tote bag (who are we kidding, I know its a man-purse, but I’m not gonna call it that). If you need a USB Micro SD reader, this is the way to go.
