The card reader I couldn’t use as you need a special jack a 9 pin, instead of your regular USB jack. The description was not clear in that it doesn’t use a USB type jack.
I was required to pay return shipping even though I ordered it not knowing it wouldn’t work for my computer.
A good product I’m sure but be careful when ordering as it won’t work with a USB plug or jack.

I was surprised it was not faster reading a UDMA 300 X compact flash into some programs, but then I tried dragging the files out onto the desktop, and it was about 5 times faster. …

This product works fine, it has a nice footprint. It is fast, but not as fast as I expected for a Firewire 800.

The reader is fast and should be as it’s a Firewire 800 device. It’s also expensive, and flawed. I didn’t like the quality of the device, the removal button (plunger) seemed sticky, and felt like it was designed with poor tolerances. Now, after using it probbly 20 times, my card is stuck inside, and the plunger is stuck inside too. This means there is now way to get my card out. There is no way to open the device. I hesitate to contact Lexar support because they are typically prone to sending stock email replies which only partially answer one’s query. I’m slowly growing dissatisfied with Lexar in general, having a good card stuck inside of an expensive reader is just on more problem that shouldn’t be.

The Lexar CF FW800 reader works fine and is very fast to transfer files. The design just seems overkill to me. The reader is quite bulky compared to other CR readers I’ve had. When inserting the card you have to push quite hard and the same is true for pushing on the button to eject the card. Other then that it works fine.
