Others who have also rated this five stars have offered all the commentary I would have offered were theirs not here, so I’ll just offer two observations about setting up this WONDERFUL 4-in-1.
First, do NOT install the UBS cable under ANY circumstance until you reach that point in the CD playback.
Next, although the instruction guide’s diagram is clear, I misread and thought the main UBS port was in front, not in back.
Before I ran the CD, I saw no reason not to set up the printer (language, phone number, etc.) and to install the ink and some paper (which you’ll need for alignment check anyway). Of course, you can wait till the CD guides you to that point.
I hope you enjoy this machine and find as much value in it as I. In fact, may I add, you have a five-year warranty on it because Lexmark built it to last.

I have search, for over 2 months for this printer Lexmark Pro205.I like the 4 color cartridges ,replacing only the color cartridge you need to replace.Big factor here,5 year warranty, yes,I said 5 years, also saved over $100.00 dollars,on this item, and was shipped in 2 days. The printer was shipped with xl color cartridges, more printing for the dollar, and factoy cartridges at a good value,vs buying from retailers at your local business supply store.I checked prices all over, this was the best value, cost of prints, ink, cost of printer, and free 2 day shipping.Very impressed,on all these issues.Thank you again, another very satified customer.

Just purchased a month ago. Mainly use for faxes and copies. Works great so far, easy to set up.

I’ve had many Lexmark products in the past and have always been pleased. I personally go through two ink cartridges a month, and the cost of ink is a problem. This product has a chip that blocks the ability to refill and reuse cartridges. The printer was a good buy. The cartilages are not. I’m giving the printer to my kids and purchasing a new one that will allow me the freedom to supply myself with a cost effective ink. Bad Lexmark. Bad. Especially from a company that says it promotes green practices.

The Lexmark Prospect Pro205 is a feature-packed all-in-one for home or small office. My wife and my daughter went totally crazy over the possibility that they could both print and scan wirelessly from anywhere in the house!
My daughter got to the box first, so I told her that meant she’d have to set it up (heh-heh). She’s no slouch with hardware, so don’t think this means that setup is idiot-proof. I watched as she put it together. The unit comes with four XL ink cartridges (black, cyan, magenta, yellow), and that was new to her. Other than pulling off all the protective tapes that hold these things together during shipping, installing the ink cartridges and setting up the power and USB cables was all it took on the hardware end.
The software installed easily on our Windows Vista laptop, and from there the direct-cable USB setup of wifi was fully menu driven. She pulled the cable out after setup, and, sure enough, there was the printer, showing up wirelessly. Open document, print, OK, and the first job started printing!
I then downloaded the Mac software from the Lexmark website (the included CD doesn’t support Mac, but it’s all there on the site). Sure enough, within minutes the printer was showing up on my printer list. I told her to put a photo on the glass, went into the scanner app, and clicked scan/OK. Voila, the photo scanned right into my MacBook Pro over the wifi. BUT…and here’s a big but (so to speak): so far I haven’t been able to print from my Mac running Snow Leopard. I haven’t had time to sit on the phone (or online chat) with support, but I have a feeling there’s a solution to this. The device is really for them–I’m pretty well covered with other devices, so I probably won’t try to solve the problem for a while. I’ll update the review when I do. I did follow the website support areas on this, including making sure I had the new version for Snow Leopard, but to no avail. That’s the only thing that’s keeping me from giving this 5 stars.
As for quality: B/W printing is beautiful, and fast. Color doc printing is great. My daughter printed out a couple of photos on high-gloss photo paper and they looked terrific. Print, scan, copy, fax–this does it all and does it well. Now we’ll just have to see if the ink prices are affordable over time. I’m a bit worried about that.
