It does not work with comcast cable. You call linksys support, spend ~ an hour trying to configure it and than they tell you to go and buy 54G model that works and to return this one to the store because it does not work !!! … This is the most “amazing” support experience I had in my life
(it is really -1 star – not +1 star)

I am a student at Virginia Tech. Before I packed up my belongings to head for college last summer, I knew I really want a wireless router in my room. So, I went out and this router seemed like it would be the best to use. At college, the whole “easy to setup a wireless network” turned into a disaster, myself and my roommate (a freshman and sophomore engineer) could not get it working. We soon realized that it didnt work because VT makes you install a program to use their wireless system, and to use this router you also needed to download a program that conflicted with my college’s. So, if you are going to college… don’t buy this.
PS – I use a Fujitsu Lifebook, but I do not believe that added to the issue.

The router was easy to install and connected to every thing just fine but the firewall is preventing me from connecting with my friends on some game consoles plus the customer service is bad i had to set on hold for a hour at a time for several diffrent time and still never fix my problems

All of the settings and task menus use technical jargon and terminology that they don’t explain at all. That’s my main problem with it. It just isn’t easy to set up if you don’t know anything about MTU and DHCP and blah blah blah. Most technological products nowadays have “set up for dummies” option of doing things so that you don’t need a degree in networking to get it to do what you want it to do. Not with this item!!
What I want this router to do is provide the same exact internet experience I had without it, but also allow my Wii and Xbox 360 and laptop connect to it wirelessly. Well, there’s some sort of firewall built into it and I can’t figure out how to edit the settings. I have a chat application on my PC that is usually open 24/7 and apparently uses certain ports. I’ve never had to know or care about this until I bought this Linksys router. The router doesn’t have those ports open, and searching the Help “feature” just brings results for the word “supports” instead of “ports”. There’s no “how do i forward ports?” help. So I haven’t even bothered to try connecting my other devices to the item since I can’t even get my normal internet out of it (without an hour of hold-time on the phone to tech support). We shouldn’t have to buy products and then call somebody right away when we get it out of the box, and stay on hold for an hour to have somebody else tell me how to operate the product. “User friendly” is the concept that eliminates that headache, and Linksys is not aware of this idea.
This is the first wireless router i’ve ever tried out so I’m not sure if this next issue is standard or not, but the setup takes a while as every time you go to “retreive router settings” and such it takes about 1 minute to figure out what it’s own settings are.
So I’m returning this tomorrow.
