Product Description
Use this cable adapter to connect your Mac to an external monitor with VGA input. Plug the Mini-DVI end into your Mac, and connect the VGA connector to a VGA (male to male) cable, then plug the cable into your monitor’s VGA input jack. Compatible models: 12-inch PowerBook G4, Intel-based iMac, the MacBook Intel-based laptop, the Intel-based Xserve, and the 2009 Mac Mini.
Helpful Notes: This device is intended to function more as an adapter than as a cable, meaning its short length WILL NOT reach from your Mac to the monitor. It will need to be used with a VGA cable (sold separately).
In addition, this adapter works only with Mini-DVI ports, not with Micro-DVI or Mini Display Ports. To quickly check what port you have: this adapter has a U-shaped connector that will match the U-shape found on Mini-DVI ports.
Highest resolution supported: 1920×1200 @60Hz…. More >>

When I bought it this item was going for $4.95 or something like that. For the price I got what I paid for. It is cheap quality, and while it works, it doesn’t display all color channels. This results in a bright magenta image. This can be fixed with a bit of fiddling, but it will soon (within a few minutes) slip back into magenta mode.
At under $5 I got what I paid for.
Now that the price has been raised, I would not recommend this to anyone.
Buy the apple version. It’s overpriced, but at least it doesn’t translate your display to monochrome magenta.

I’ve had this for about 5 months now and it’s definitely a low quality cable. When I first tried to use it it wouldn’t display anything at all. I ended up just fiddling with it until I could get it to work, but unfortunately if I ever moved it or adjusted it, it would lose the image again. This is annoying for whenever I would adjust my monitor for whatever reason it would cut the signal off. Now, after five months, I think it finally died on me. It won’t display an image at all no matter how much i fiddle with it. Every now and then my second monitor screen will flash with an image but it just as quickly dies back out. It’s as if there is a loose connection inside the cable. I’m going to order a higher quality one this time. I guess you get what you pay for.

I bought this cable to hook my Mac Mini to my Sony TV’s VGA input. It works well and I’ve had no problem with it. I’m watching streaming movies, DVDs and using it for general computer work.

This item is significantly cheaper and works perfectly. One user stated that all he saw was magenta. This can occur if the cable is loose or perhaps he had a defective cable. However, this product works very well and there is no reason to purchase the Apple version.

For less than $5, the shipping was just as much, and at just under $10 that’s still $20 less than the apple store. It works and it was cheap. yay!
