This card had been shipped in a very small box, which only held the card, driver CD, and 2 manuals. I’m using it now, and It is pretty Good. It has HDMI support, so for those who have HDTVs, this would serve to watch some blue-ray. Its a pretty thin card, so you can have some wires over it. The card normally runs at 45 degrees C. Thats it.

Great card. Installation was easy and works great under Windows 7. My PC has a small power supply and this card fit the bill.

I bought the Sparkle version of the GeForce 8400 GS 256 MB with the Black Friday deals.
Card was cheap at $28 and it works well with Win7 but I specifically bought this card to test how well it would work with Linux… any kind of Linux.
ATI has classified my current ATI x300 card as a legacy card and doesn’t provide any new drivers. The newest Linux kernels also don’t support the use of the old legacy drivers so it was time to find something that would work out of the box with not much tweaking.
The GeForce 8400 GS fits the bill for a low end cheap card. Graphics and video work well in Linux with no stutters or flickering. Compiz and Emerald work well too.
My one complaint is that the 8400’s that have a fan attached are a little noisy. The noise isn’t loud but it has a consistent high pitched whiney noise that you may not like. The noise is a known flaw with these cards, you just need to decide on what type of use your computer will perform and do you want an absolutely quiet computer.
For less than $30 I can live with it.
It’s A GOOD LINUX CARD!
