I have pre-ordered this game in May 2006, as soon as I realized I could. And yet, even though the game is out, and people around me have recieved it and played it, the package is not shipped. I’d hope that Amazon would have prioritized the shipping for those who ordered first over those who ordered last, as they have obviously waited longer, but I was wrong. The most annoying thing is that the estimated shipping date is “August 9 – August 18, 2006″. I think the estimate is a bit off. It is frustrating, and I only hope the game is worth it.
I merely give a low raiting because I have yet to actually see the game on my screen.

I usually DO NOT take the advice of others when it comes to purchasing games because I’m the one who’s playing it and everyone gets a different expierence out of any game, whether it be a LOW BUDGET title, or a so-called “BLOCKBUSTER” hit. I’ve read several reviews on this title and i have to say that this is one of the only times where i can sense that there is some real truth in the complaints about this game. Why would i come to such a conclusion when i don’t even own the game??? Well, the reason is a lot easier to understand than you think. First of all I’d like to say that i own “NWN-Gold” and the very last expansion pak. I enjoyed the series. But after reading on several websites and comparing and sorting out the ‘HONEST’ reviews from garbage-(Those who ‘Praised the game simply to be included in the ME TOO crowd’), i noticed a very disturbing trend that has been a plague on the entire gaming market for some time now. STAGNATION!! As long as gamers(including myself) keep dishing out the BIG$$$$ for so called “GRAPHIC ADVANCEMENTS”,the big companies will continue to throw as much unfinished,1/4 tested, resource killing tripe @ us because they KNOW that no matter what..if there is a major title on the box..people will buy it.These guys are smart because they know that the average gamer(today’s modern gamer) does not want a story. They also know that most(not all)modern gamers are easily distacted and get extremely GIDDIE over *SHINEY THINGS*,They figure we all just want to be lead by the nose so we can get from point-A to point-B…finish the game..and rush to get online so they can give our opinion of the product. It’s called-”POWER SELLING” and it really is an insult to those who are loyal to a certain franchise or genre and end up with the short end of the stick because JOHNNY NEXT DOOR JUST GOT HIS FIRST HIGH-END FROM HIS PARENTS AND HAS SOME HOW PLAYED THE GAME (with few or no bugs : as he’ll soon write in his next Amazon review)and has now become the voice of reason. OK…(SURE,I’LL BUY THAT)…and don’t even get me started on the way consumers are getting YANKED on the cost of upgrades and in some instances, purchasing a new PC in anticipation of thier favorite NEW game releases. So am i bitter??? NO..just a realist and an observer of the truth. So to the many honest reviews that were written on this site about this game-(The bad reviews were the only honest ones),my hat goes off to you and thanks for the warning..I’ll PASS on this one until a “GOLD” ,”PLATINUM” or any completely fixed version is released and only if it comes with a $12-$20 Price tag so that even if i find the storyline to be complete garbage..i can put it on the shelf beside (NWN-GOLD) and not feel so bad for wasting $50.

This game uses “cutscenes” and character setup “dynamics” in place of strait gameplay. For example a group of dwarves attack you and you have to go about recruiting stupid people and the PC’s dynamics is not set to “if they aren’t there yet!” So maybe the goofs don’t “produce thier first wave”. Why do companies always buden us with the task of “director of the scenes” instead of “player of them” They absently and precariously do this and think we gamers like it as if they are sleeping while programing. Star Wars KToR 2(Kreia’s cuts) and Ultima 9(Minoc/Yew rock climbing caper/mine sh@#) were the same way, why not stick with the old formula of just gaming in any order(RPG) without having to “trigger this event before that or that won’t happen and will blotch up the computer” Despite the plot which is excellent start to– well I just ran the prologue and was saddened by my –SPOILED HERE 20 somthing rich kid!=-
- P character’s plight and his dead Amiee.(highly unusual to kill off a main NPC character of intresting backstory so early in the adventure). And since this is supposed to be a “role” playing game, why not have alternate outcomes, “Amiee whch ya gonna do?” type stuff, not this “Dupre’ b.s. of “I’m going to save you Avatar by burning myself in hell forever… For the Children.” Ultima 7 pt 2 cut scene crapola.
END SPOILERs
The reason people are so “concerned” about “spoilers” in games is that they aren’t true RPG’s of old as thier is only the out come the director decided. The main reason I don’t care for this game is not the play but the sloppy programing and steap PC requirements for very little. That it makes my wrist ache as the camera cannot be set in ANY options to work properly. That occasionally Creative sound drivers revert from multi speaker setting to the primate native 2.1 cheeze whizz setting when ATARI logo pops up. I am not imersed in the adventure(as others have stated here) and It is a forced job to play it and not freeze the system. By the way, your hard ware configs are not enough if you have a mobo over two years old you are bottle necking(a “feat” I learned long ago with my other mobo Mr. Gigabyte cheeze factor Proto 1 Ali) But even the middle end 2004+ mobos don’t work and are old, you need AT LEAST an SLI or bust and not from yer local guber computer shops neither! And also a powersupply and don’t use those fancy LAN party lights in that case or you’ll pay with a crashed HD.(w/o a Coolermaster 850 watt or sum such). Though Antec’s 550 HE-man P/S will suffice in non Raid 0 or + configs as it’s absolulte voltages are just that.
for what you get it ain’t worth the major upgrade of the PC. You cannot use AI Accelorators as this game(and most others) doesn’t support it. So keep your lights on and play other games like that star wars junk.

I bought this game, it’s now shelfware. I didn’t play it nor will I ever. The problem is that in order to play the game, one must insert the game DVD into the disk drive. Unlike previous games, there is no way around that because some low-level software installed by Atari checks this. I uninstalled the game immediately when I noticed this.
I am a casual gamer and wanted to play this on my laptop every now and then, on flights or when waiting at the Airport. The DVD requirement makes that impractical because when I travel, I need to think of passport, tickets, schedule, and a million other things and certainly not the games DVD for NWN 2.
The second technical issue I have is with the SecuROM software installed. This software hooks itself deep into the system and causes instability. I am using my laptop mainly for work, so having this installed really is not an option for me. I can’t risk my work environment for software that is _always_ on yet serves no use except to make sure other people don’t copy NWN 2. I get no benefit from that. I have complained on the Atari forums to no avail.
I the future I will carefully check in advance if SecuROM or similar software is included and avoid such games. Too bad because I was a huge, huge fan of NWN 1, and I still play it every now and then. Expectations were high.

This game is a kick to play. I tried Neverwinter Nights 2 after having played Guild Wars for over a year. Since I tried NN2, I have had no desire to log on to GW. I was a huge GW fan, but this game is so much better. The AI is great (much better than the hero’s system introduced in Nightfall), there are more choices, and I feel compelled to play. There are tons of options for character development. You can even create your own campaigns.
It’s buggy right now, but patches are coming out to fix the problems. A little patience is required. The game will freeze sometimes after you save, but the good news is that your save will go through.
