purchased this for my 2008 macbook pro….cable splits and occupies two usb hubs for power etc. usb hubs are on opposite sides of the macbook, so the cord does not reach both hubs and wont work. upon contacting nu they reccomended i purchase an extension for the usb cable. I did…and it still says the device cannont run because of how much power it draws. AWESOME waste of money for me.

Been using this for several months now with an Asus 1000he netbook. This drive works with USB power only & the unit is very light weight.
I’ve burned DVD’s, CD’s & backed up a lot of data using this drive with no problems.

It will occasionally bring my Asus Eee Pc to its knees when I plug it in (much like if you pulled the battery out). NUI says it is a problem with the netbook’s power management system. OK, I’ll buy that. The cure is to turn the machine off, plug in the drive and turn things on. Not too bad. But is also not entirely reliable with DVDs. I’ve come upon more than one movie that hangs.
It is also a little on the large size IMHO. But overall, it is fairly inexpensive, has seemingly good power consumption and will burn a DVD for seventy bucks. It also does have a DC input for separate power. No adapter though. I’m not sure why you’d ever need it anyway. If you need power, plug your laptop in.
Good product, certainly not great but then again it is an external DVD drive. I can’t imagine one that I’d consider great.
It works, not always to my wishes, but it works.

The drive was easy to use just plug and go. It has worked perfectly so far. My friend bought a similiar model but paid thirty dollars more, great value.
