When my original Shark steam mop died after about 2 years, I purchased the Oreck. (I already had both one of their vacuums and the orbiter – both of which I love). The Steam-It definitely does a better job on my floors than the shark did. I have a lot of ceramic tile. In the kitchen if there were any dried spills, I would need to go over them several times with the Shark and pump the handle for more steam. The Oreck does it in one pass. The steam appears to be much hotter. I also like the fact that I can use my own microfiber cloths. I have a big bag of them from Sam’s so I’ll never run out. It also holds a lot of water – I only fill it halfway now – which is still enough to do all my floors. I have also tried it on the granite countertops – and though I won’t say it’s not awkward, it did do a nice job. As far as hard to push, I have not had any problems and I’m neither young nor particularly strong

I received this last week as a birthday present and used it tonight for the first time. I HATE this product!!!! It was very heavy to use, the cleaning pads are very hard to clip in place and the parts of the floor it did somewhat clean are sticky! It didn’t even get any dirt off our grout and our hard wood floors are very dull looking. Wasn’t to excited to try it since I already had a Shark steam mop but decided to any ways. Hoping I can get some money back on it and go get what I really wanted for my birthday, if not it’s going straight to the trash can.

THIS UNIT WAS PURCHASED FOR MY WIFE. IT WAS SIMPLE TO ASSEMBLE, AND THE STEAM BUILT UP RAPIDLY. OUR KITCHEN ,DINING AREA, AND ENTRY WAY ARE PORCELAIN SCULPTURED TILE. ALAS, THE MACHINE PROVED TO BE TOO HEAVY FOR THE OLD GAL TO PUSH AND PULL. THE BATHROOMS HAVE SMOOTH TILE AND WERE EASIER TO WORK. BUT SHE WANTS SOMETHING TO CLEAN ALL AREAS MENTIONED. ORECK E MAILED ME A RETURN LABEL AND BACK IT WENT -ABSOLUTELY NO CHARGE TO ME. KUDOS TO ORECK.

I moved into a new house with all hard wood and tile floors so I gave away my carpet cleaner and bought an Oreck Steam It. While it seems as well made as other Oreck products, the quirks outway any benefits. To begin with, the design of the 4 clips that are supposed to hold the pad in place suggest that the pads have extra fabric in the vertical direction. They don’t. The additional fabric is in the horizontal direction and trying to get the pads to stay in place is no easy task. I have also pinched my fingers more times than I care to admit.
The instruction book makes little sense and the pictures do not coincide with what the directions tell you. I still can’t figure out exactly when to use which item and for what purpose.
Finally, the wand glides across surfaces as if it has been nailed to them.
David Oreck, you should be ashamed of yourself!

I bought the Steam-It to clean my wood floors. The problem I had was that I couldn’t keep the pad on long enough to do any real cleaning. The pad will not glide along the floor and the pad quickly comes unclipped with the slightest push of the wand.
The store salesperson suggested I push the wand at an angle to clean. I should angle it one way when I push forward and change the angle when I pull the wand back. That helped a little, but the pad still would easy unclip.
This is a very poorly designed product.
I managed to clean a 4×4 section of the floor before the pad became to dirty to use. So it does work OK. Now if only the pad would stay attached it might be a great product.
