First of all, don’t buy this card expecting to receive the PNY rebate. I was informed by PNY that I wouldn’t receive the rebate because I hadn’t enclosed the original receipt – and no Amazon buyer is provided with a “receipt” that would conform with their rebate conditions. This is pure FRAUD. So, forget the rebate! It’s a scam. I’m planning on reapplying and then making a complaint with my local assistant state attorney general. The rebate offer is nothing but a fraud.
Second of all, this card doesn’t work with full screen flash. I’ve tried every fix and after repeated internet searches, I can’t find proof, anecdotal or otherwise, that anyone has ever made this card work successful and smoothly with fullscreen flash. So forget about watching Youtube or Hulu after buying this card.
Third, the NVIDIA drivers aren’t fully compatible with Vista, and also have a conflict with Google Desktop. It was a nightmare to install the drivers, and if you have a previous integrated NVIDIA card, you will have a continuing software conflict.
The bottom line is that this 512MB card is far worse in operation than cheap 128MB integrated graphics card. It’s just downright bad. It works, but not to a reasonable standard for any graphics card, especially one with these supposed specifications. All I can say is that it is better than not having ANY functioning graphics card at all.
Amazon is offering an incredible deal on this card, and even promoting the bogus PNY rebate on their own webpage. If the card worked and the rebate was actually paid by PNY, it would be a great value. As it is, AVOID this “PNY GeForce 8400GS 512MB PCI Graphics Card.”
Don’t buy it!

I bought this card to upgrade my old Dell Dimension 2350 so I could use it as a makeshift HTPC. The card supposes to support the HDTV output via the cable included with the card…
Now the punchline:
THE SUPPLIED CABLE CANNOT BE PLUGGED INTO THE CARD!
The cable has 8-pins male connector needed for the composite video output, the card itself has only 4-pins female socket, old style S-video. So the cable is useless and if your TV has only the composite input – you are screwed…
Luckily for me, my TV has the HDMI input, so I am still able to connect the PC to the TV using DVI-to-HDMI cable. Whether it affects the video quality remains to be seen. In theory should be ok, I will investigate.
But I still have a question:
What the hell PNY is doing by stuffing two incompatible hardware pieces into the same box?
Some other thoughts. Another very established online store sells the same card (same model number), which looks slightly different on their photos. Maybe they have in stock a strain of this card which does not suffer from this unexplainable defect…

This card does NOT have an S video output…as specified in the item description.
This is the only reason I bought this particular card, it looked like a good price for the features advertised. I want a card that I could hook to my TV, the item description actually says that it has vga and dva AND an S video output, but would’nt you know, I wait a week to get this after I ordered, excited to get a new card, and its completely useless for my needs.
If you only need vga and dvi, maybe buy this card…I say maybe because my research was based on buying something with s video, there is probably a better deal out there if you dont need s video.
I am very displeased with this purchase.

Put the card in, loaded the drivers, and it works fine. I can now turn the graphics on Windows 7 all the way up with no problem. It’s not meant for hard-core gaming, but it’s a great card for the price.

When we first put this in our computer, it wouldnt even startup….and that was after we spent over an hour trying to get a part that was supposed to be compatible with my computer IN in the first place!…it works fine, but now it’s fan sounds a little noisy, I dont know if its a defect, normal or just caused by the atrocious dust problem in my home…..otherwise, it was able to play the pc game spore, which is pretty demanding graphically.
