I thought I would be able to take this with me and use my SATA drives with USB but you also need to take the rather large power adapter also. All the external usb enclosures are able to power over USB so why can’t this?

Works as advertised. I just needed to connect to a drive temporarily(hour or so), and disconnect. I wouldn’t want to use it long term. 4 different cables to connect together. Obviously no case for the drive, could see a drive being knocked off the desk or something.

I bought this item to transfer data from my old laptop drive to my new one. I was able to get all the data needed, but two days later while backing up data the thing died on me never to run again. I plan to attach the SATA adapter to a different power supply to continue using it, but for anyone who doesn’t have electrical skill to do the same I say: DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT! It is very cheap.

I bought this to transfer info out of my boyfriends laptop HD (the laptops motherboard was fried and I had hopes that the HD was fine).
On my computer the product worked like a charm.
I got the information no problem. My boyfriends computer was a different story. We couldn’t get it to recognize the machinery at all. we both run XP and his computer is brand new and mine is quite old so I cannot fathom why it wouldn’t load.
the instructions are pretty useless, they are in engrish, so I hope you are good with plug and play items if you buy this. Also no hope for a driver for XP.
so its a roll of the dice with this item

Works perfect. Helped me diagnose my laptop problems and save all my data in turn.
