Impressed
First foray into the world of Blu-ray and I have to say I’m quite impressed. Superb picture, simple and precise user interface and unique front flip-down design.

excellent & versatile player at great price – audio sync due to setting problem
I was searching for a blu-ray player that would also play DIVX video and this is about the only one out there!

I bought one of these machines just a few days ago and frankly, I am disappointed. It cannot play back Quantum of Solace or The Dark Knight without audio problems. There are no firmware updates available as the machine is so new. Here we are once more harking back to the bad old days of DVD when you’d buy a player and hope it would play the latest release. The BD-P1600 plays back DVDs just fine and it managed the Blu-ray version of The Thing without incident. Here’s hoping for a firmware update soon.

Not a good buy
I have already had two of these players. The first one didn’t play any Blu-ray discs at all so I returned it.

Samsung BD-P1600 Blu-ray Disc Player – Black Player arrived to-day from Amazon. Just a small point to add to other reviewers comments. I am using a Sony HDR-SR11E avchd camcorder, and using their basic software have had no trouble burning avchd onto a standard dvd disk to play on BD-P1600 in high def. The quality is excelent. I must say that I have not yet tried a double layer dvd disk that the other reviewers have had trouble with but Samsung say firmware on its way. It is also great in that through the usb port you can watch films, pics, music on flash cards and I am using a 160 gig 2. 5″ hard drive with over 100 full lenght films on it. and it works perfectly. Sound output via optical to Panasonic amp 5. 1 outstanding. Upgrading of dvd disks quite good but I think the Samsung dvd-h1080 player has the edge. ( my opinion). . 23. 4. 09 Update to above. Player will NOT read dual layer dvd disks with AVCHD burnt on them as found by other reviewers. Player was made 3/09. so no new firmware installed. It now turns out that firmware update is not yet iminent. (From Samsung today 23/4/2009)

Samsung BDP 1600 Blue Ray Disc Player
I found this product great for playing Hi Def DVDs and DivX Discs.I also like it for playing back Hi Def Videos from my Panasonic HDC-SD20 Full HD 1920×1080 Video Camera.

I like the image quality of blu-ray, dvd and even avi played from usb but I’m very annoyed that AVCHD will NOT be played from DVD+R DL (so far)! Latest firmware available in use and Samsung support contacted. This inability leaves a bad taste with an otherwise brilliant player with extremely short start-up times.

Samsung BD1600 superb
Took it out of the box, plugged it in an away we went. No need for any software update. Paired with a Samsung TV and cinema system works a treat.

time will tell
Took under 24hrs to arrive. Able to track parcel throughout journey. All now set up with TV. Will sometimes play play DVD-R/RW and DVD+R/RW, on other occasions the disk stops…
