I placed it into my cart and suddenly Amazon increased the price by $5 that is more than 10%.
Thus I am not buying.

Since the Amazon geeks are NOT listening, here’s my UPDATE:
I am trying to figure this out: Some people say they used one USB and it worked great, some say they used two and then it works great. The same with the software: Do I need the silly software that it comes with it or is it true “Plug & Play”?
My HP 2133 has two USB’s as do most Netbooks. I use one with the mouse because I cannot stand ANY touch pad. So using two USB’s for these drives is NOT an option.
Observation: My HP 2133 has a “powered” USB (the one with a little different opening – at the LEFT side) and a normal (not-powered) at the right side. I suspect if I use the “powered” one, I’ll need only one USB.
But why I, a paying customer has to do all this research, while the geeks at Amazon are busy carrying MY money to the bank?
Based on my recent miserable experience with a return that cost me an arm and a leg, I developed my NEW theory: I order ONLY books and music CD’s from Amazon, if that. For “complicated” electronic stuff I go to my local Best Buy or ABC Warehouse (no, I do not have any stock in these companies) – they will take them back with no hassle and no cost to ME…until Amazon uses some of their geeks to read these discussions and offer accurate and true info regarding their merchandize.

Before I buy one: Has anyone tried to plug the power USB cord to a 120V/5V DC plug (like the KZ328AE)? Will it work? I have a HP mini with one powered USB and one “normal”. I use the normal for my mini-mouse, it would be great to have a way to power it from an external USB power source (which I happen to have).
Any help will be appreciated – before I go to Samsung web/help site.

This product works fine with my Mac for burning DVDs and reading data DVDs, but it cannot play DVD movies. Buyer beware! See attached image.

Software not upgraded to work with Windows 7 for which you have to pay additional. Sent it back.

I purchased a Samsung USB 2.0 8x dvd writer external optical drive nearly a month ago. It was installed to a usb slot with 2 usb slots necessary to make it function. Next was to install the external slim DVD writer C/D that came with the unit. absolutely nothing happened, except the unit’s drive sped up until I finally rejected the c/d.( Lucky for me, I engaged a tech writer (This guy worked with Paul allen and bill gates in arizona, before the company became a success) to help me install this writer, and he could not complete the installation using the ” writer disk supplied by Sam sung. The computer that was to have the installation was an Acer aspire note book recently purchased. (meaning there were no glitches with the computer from previous use.) At this writing, I have a new Sam-sung USB writer that has never been used, and to the best of my knowledge, is most likely not to be returned because of time restrictions. I am just a consumer, but the tech person is a professional who can be reached at sandy [...]. My frustration level with this product has gone past full tilt boogie, but I may just try it again in the months to come, when I cool off sufficiently. In the mean time it just clutters up a space on the back of my desk. I am no longer order prorifials from after markets, as most do not function to any level of satisfaction. TG
