Others seem to have good luck with this, but I haven’t. I have an iPhone 3G hooked up to a Pioneer Premier DEH-P980BT headunit via the Pioneer CD-IB100II iPod adapter. This adapter is made for the older units, so I get the usual incompatibility message asking if I want to use flight mode. After hooking this up, I get the same message and still no charging.

Ordered this to use with my new 3Gs 32GB. When the car is stationary, it works like a charm — charges and plays. However, road testing proves it to be positively useless. Any song playing on the iPod app starts skipping and/or the phone just crashes and goes to a black Apple screen for 5 minutes. It almost seems like it disables any shake protection built in to the phone (I even tried turning off all the “shake to” features to make sure nothing was interfering). I’m most dissatisfied, and hoping I kept the packaging to return it.

Works as per description. Unfortunately due to some not so good information from the manufacturer of my FM transmitter (Sonnet iFreq) i was lead to believe it would work with my iPhone 3G, which it only partially does, ie it charges but does not transmit music
Seems like a good device just make sure it works with your devices

I connected this and at first it seemed great. I could finally charge my iPhone 3G with my Blaupunkt stereo’s iPod attachment. Then my wife noticed it was making noise. Kind of a scary electrical “about to fry” kind of noise. So I disconnected my iPhone. But I left the passport attached to my stereo iPod adapter. Big mistake. Today I was ready to go to a pediatrician appointment for my daughter, and my car wouldn’t start. The passport drained my car battery! What a piece of junk!!!

I just wanted to let others know who may be considering this that it did not work with my car stereo’s ipod adapter.
After this failed to work I looked into it further and in fact fixed my car stereo adapter with two 8 cent resistors. So 16 cents for a fix that works instead of $50 (including postage) for something that didn’t work and was just a useless waste of money.
