I have a smaller capacity version. Didn’t last long and died with no warning sounds or glitches. We were using for back up and were fortunate we realized it was toast before we needed any of the back up.

I purchased this for external storage – installation was a snap – loved the performance. All was great until the day it died. I could send in for a replacement, but from other comments I have seen I am not sure that I care to risk my data with this model drive again.

Seagate ST305004FDA1E1-RK FreeAgent Desktop 500 GB 3.5-Inch USB 2.0 External Hard Drive
I bought a 320 GB version of this and had problems with it “disappearing” from my system. I talked with Technical support and I went through installing it on another computer and it did the same thing. While I was doing this, I noticed the base was hot (too hot) to the touch. I looked for problems via Google and found a whole pile of complaints that had to do with overheating and further complaints that Seagate was not acknowledging the problem and the Support Engineers were no help (this was my experience). As far as I can tell, disks beyond 250 GB were made without changes to the cooling to handle hotter running products. I don’t know if this has now been fixed. I would assume so since ads for these products disappeared for a few months and are now showing up again. But the other issue is – how can you trust this company? Rather than pursue replacement (I believe I would have just received an identical drive which may have been better or may have been worse), I found that sitting it on 2 thin strips of corian (left overs from a bathroom job) did the trick by allowing the base to get some air. Now that it’s working, it’s great….

I’ve been using this product for 3 weeks and it finally died on me. Luckily the item was still returnable to the store I purchased it from and I literally just got back from the store after returning it for a full refund to write this mini-review.
For 3 weeks it was alright, though I did notice it ran really hot, made intermittent noises I’ve never heard my other 3 Buffalo hard drives make and the transferring was initially fast but quickly slowed down the more I used it. I was surprised that the drive didn’t come bundled with any software including the usual FAT32 disk formatting program. I understand they have free FAT32 formatting programs on the internet but with every Buffalo drive I’ve purchased, I’ve enjoyed the privilege of this and other software conveniently packaged with it.
I can’t, in clear conscience, recommend this Seagate FreeAgent drive to anyone, not really knowing if I just received a lemon or if their drives are outright just not dependable. Whatever the case may be, after this experience I will not venture down the road of 1TB Seagate external hard drives again, recommending you do the same!

Muy buen articulo, de gran capacidad a buen precio. Con software de administracion para evitar el uso constante de dispositivo y software de backup incluido con el cual se pueden hacer respaldo programados de los datos del PC
