Received the drive from J&R. The power supply connection didn’t work; confirmed by Seagate support. Bottom line, dead on arrival. Returned to J&R on 12/9/08. J&R is shipping a Western Digital replacement (comparable specs).

This is a very bad product. I purchased this disk and it died in just 3 months.
It took away 500 GB of backup data, videos and photos

Bought for daughter to store/backup vast music library. Within two weeks the drive crashed. Not happy! Will try WD next.

Check all the forums – MANY people are having problems with this drive under Windows Vista. It installs very easy – the drive appears in the Computer window, but then disappears. When you reboot, you get the message that a USB device cannot be recognized. To solve this problem, I’ve had to turn off all power management features of the drive so it doesn’t sleep while my computer is running. Then when I shut down, I have to remove the power cord from the drive. After I reboot, I have to reconnect the power to the drive for Vista to recognize the drive without error. VERY ANNOYING! There doesn’t appear to be a fix out there.
