Received the drive from J&R. The power supply connection didn’t work; confirmed by Seagate support. Bottom line, dead on arrival. Returned to J&R on 12/9/08. J&R is shipping a Western Digital replacement (comparable specs).

This is a very bad product. I purchased this disk and it died in just 3 months.
It took away 500 GB of backup data, videos and photos

Bought for daughter to store/backup vast music library. Within two weeks the drive crashed. Not happy! Will try WD next.

The Seagate FreeAgent is the best external hard drive I have ever owned…and the price was so right!!

This is not a Linux friendly external drive. Keep getting disconnected from my Linux notebook. I had to use a Windows machine to set the firmware to never spin down in order to work with Linux. It works now, but then I loose the energy saving feature.
