This is a VERY important message to Mac and Linux users out there:
This device is in NOT AT ALL COMPATIBLE WITH MACS,
and NOT AT ALL COMPATIBLE WITH MACHINES RUNNING LINUX.
It does NOT show up as a USB Mass Storage device when plugged into a Mac on 10.5.8, and… that’s pretty much where my experience with the device ends. There is no Mac driver, and after plugging this thing in and having done about an hour of research now, there is no solution for me to get the data off of this device but to plug it into a Windows box and use the provided software to access the device. I don’t like that solution because I don’t have a Windows box, and having one is really more effort than it’s worth in the first place.
After spending $70 in a local store to pick this up before an important meeting I need to be recording in the morning… I’m a bit upset that this isn’t going to be working out for me. It looks like I’ll have to return this to the store and find another local solution in the morning before my meeting, and I’m not happy about that.

As a recorder it is easy to use & works fine. In order to transfer files you must have windows to install the software. The recorder does not even show up on your computer when you plug in the USB unless you have the software installed.
If you have a mac, you are out of luck. I even use a crossover programs to simulate windows so I can install windows only software (on the rare occasion I need that crap) and this software could still not be installed.
Bottom line is, you will not be able to access the files on the recorder unless you use their software to do it.
I can’t believe they would even make a device that is not OS X compatible nowadays. Get with it sony!

Long story short. While it has a usb port, it does not go into mass storage mode. So you need the proprietary software on the CD to read your audio from it. There is no linux version of this software.
I did not try to get the software running under wine or an emulator.
Other than that, seems to work fine.

This is very good device and catch very clear sound. only drawback is if you put this device in you pent pocket, it starts playing the feeded songs, because play button is littlebit raised.

This is the first voice recorder I have purchased and I am very pleased with it. I use it for recording class discussion and for interviewing people as part of research projects. I found that the key to maximizing it’s use and features is tied with reading the instruction manual. It is very useful, explains the features well and their possible applications and effects. As a first time user, I found this extremely helpful and have, so far, not been disappointed with the results. The accompanying software to transfer the recordings to a computer is easy to install and the interface is straightforward and user-friendly.
