I had it for less than a month before it died. The video wasn’t very good and the formats that it plays is also limited. I resisted for as long as possible but now I know why Apple rules the MP3 world. I paid a more for the Touch and it’s superior in every way possible better screen, better build and sound quality.
Too bad this is such a cheap build because the speakers were a cool feature and the battery life was excellent.
Also like the touch this device is not expandable, trust me spend a little more and avoid this cheap producr especially if you ever want to watch video.

So, I bought a Walkman a year ago, figuring that Sony would of course make accessories (clock radios, etc) for their own products. Wow! Imagine my surprise when I found out they only make iPOD accessories. Even though I love how the walkman works, WHY would you ever buy one, if you can’t get accessories! What an incredibility STUPID company. I wrote an email to them an got no response. So, I will never again buy another Sony product.
Stay away from Sony products, they’ll leave you in the cold!

I am a sony guy and have been for 30 years. So my opinion maybe biased.
Nevertheless., forget about the ipod hoax ,overpriced and overrated.
SONY HAS A WINNER.,VERY STYLISH,RIGHT FUNCTIONS,WELL BUILT AND GOOD MEMORY CAPACITY FOR AN UNBEATABLE PRICE.
THE ONLY FLAW ,ARE THOSE UNTOUCHABLE PROPRIETARY INTERNAL BATTERIES THAT DICTATE THE LIFE OF THE DEVICE.,REGULAR BATTERIES WOULD MAKE IT SO MUCH BETTER.

I actually just bought the S 639, which is weird, I got it somewhere else ( sorry amazon lol ), but I guess it is the older version of this one…just wondering if the sound is different on this newer one, since the ear buds are different….but the S639 has tremendous sound, what a great player. It does not have noise cancelling and somewhere else I read that it is a european model, although i bought it at a big box store on clearance. It has the very nice EX 082 earphones, and with the clear bass and all the equalizer settings, it is a fantastic player. Sync with windows media player, and also drag and drop songs/files with file explorer, very easy. Only thing is mine is not gapless playback, but that is not too much of a deal killer for me. Kind of confused with these model numbers and such, but bottom line is these new sony’s are really really really good sounding. I have a 30 gig ipod for a long time, and this sony just crushes my ipod on the sound quality issue….I got the 16 gig and now I wish it had even more storage, but still you can get a few videos and a lot of music on there with 16 gigs…i am thrilled with this player.

First thing I noticed when I listened to this player was that all of the music that I used to enjoy on my Sony CD/MP3 walkman in my car which has great speakers now sounded thinner, at times harsh, and I couldn’t adjust it with the player’s EQ. When I had the Sony D-NF340 walkman I loved the sound of it-full, three-dimentional, and pleasant, and it did not have any annoying frequencies. With my new Sony S-Series 16 GB MP3 player I constanly want to tweak the EQ and can never make it sound as good as my CD walkman. I am thinking that either the digital to analog converters in this player are bad, or the amplifier. (I hope Cowon S9 has sound quality that will make my ears happy). I am a musician and I spend a lot of time in a recording studio and I definitely know about the sound.
