A mighty sequel, and a perfect example of how to update a classic franchise for the current generation. Everything, from the cheesey title music to the fighters announcements, brings back nostalgia. The visuals make Stret Fighter 4 stand out, whilst retaining the feel of the series. The cel shaded look is outstanding, and the animations really bring the characters to life. Classic fighters are immediately recognisable, with some beautifully done exaggerations (like Guiles hair). New additions to the roster all appear to bring something new. El Fuerte for example, plays like no-one in the series history. Gameplay is accessible from the start, as the core fighting moves have been revised. Its now easier to perform 2-3 hit combos on the fly. Rather than ruining balance, it prevents button bashing, even from new players. This lower entry level helps to encourage complete mastery of your chosen character and their capabilites. The frighteningly good, elite Street Fighters have also returned. A session online revealed that even on release day, some players are impossibly good. Winning just a handful of fights, online brawling is a humbling experience, even during these early days. The option to play a ranked battle, or one just for fun, will make online suitability and pairing easier. There’s also a fight request system (which can be turned off), that allow invitations to be sent whilst playing. Single player alone has some impressive modes. Arcade seems virtually untouched, with a nonsense story explaining each fighters involvement in this tournament. Challenge mode is a nice addition; a series of tasks, with categories like survival and time attck. A typical challenge would be: defeat 12 characters in a row, within 250 seconds, with 5 second bonus for each one defeated. Extremely addictive, and as they only last minutes, add massively to that ‘one more go’ factor. A near flawless brawler.

An expected flop
Overall judgment: This new chapter of the Street Fighter franchise will cheer up the fans, but disappoint all the rest.
Graphics: Very nice.

Capcom seem to be churning out some impressive releases in 2009 with the excellent Resident Evil 5 recently and Ryu, Ken, Chun Li and co are back in the forth entry in the long-running beat `em up series in `Street Fighter IV’. THE GOOD: - Some of the best visuals on the PS3 with Manga-style graphics, so much detail in the background and very impressive cut-scenes. - Very easy to just pick up and play. Very easy learning curve too so even players new to the series will get the hang of it in no time. - Plenty of game modes including being able to play online. - Decent soundtrack, lots of new tracks and some remixes of the classics from previous games. - Lots of characters and bonuses to unlock and plenty of trophies to work for. THE BAD: - It does feel a little too similar to the classic Street Fighter II, just with shiner visuals – if you’ve recently purchased the SFII HD Remix from PSN, this may feel like a little bit of a waste of money. - Online mode isn’t great, sometimes it is really hard to find a match. - The new characters are quite dull and are rubbish in comparison to the regular roster. You’ll never use them. Overall this is a very good beat-em-up, especially for fans of Street Fighter II, just don’t expect anything new really.

Good game, brings back memorys of my old snes! However, not as much fun as the old snes. Moves are too long winded the old version is “The Classic”.

Very well done
Street Fighter IV is a really well done game. What dissapointed me a bit is the fact that is again and again the same thing. I was expecting to find something new.

It’s a fighting game nothing more
The Street Fighter games are one of the most well-known “Fighting” game series in the world. But for many people it’s just another fighter out of many.

Capcom gives us a sequel worthy of it’s overwhelming popularity in the early 90s ! All the solid and balanced great gameplay is back , this time accompanied with the lovely wrapper of next gen graphics ! Playing this really brought back a great rush that really makes me want to retire from the shooter-fest that dominates nowadays. This was my most awaited game in a long time and I definitely wasn’t disappointed when it arrived through the door today , as I played it non-stop for hours both against the computer and online against human opponents too and loving every minute of it. This is indeed every street fighter fans modern dream come true! Everything about this game is pure quality that would please any true fighting fan and is easily the best fighting game on any platform ! The game has great variety and a big cast of distinctly different yet very balanced fighters , which has always what made this series great. Old favourites have been rebalanced too, with a lot of lesser used characters in the past having improved odds of winning. Also new additions to the fighting system has added a great new twist to the ever evolving series , with new ways to the destroy and defend against your opponent. The Focus attack is a charge up strike that absorbs one hit and counters with a stunning blow and follow up. This technique will punish the over aggressive players and encourage defensive strategies throughout the street fighter community. There are other advanced uses in the focus system such as Focus canceling that will bring possibilities for the more technical players and new depth to this already excellent fighting engine. The other addition to the Street Fighter Engine is the Ultra combo which is a powered up cinematic version of the Super Combo which has a combo meter of it’s own ( Separate from the super Combo which is filled up by hitting your opponent ) which is filled up from getting hit by the opponent. The purpose of this move is to give the chance for the losing player to make a comeback. Although some may find this over the top and too powerful/cheap. These two new additions to the fighting system will give more flexibility and variation for old time Street Fighter Veterans and ways for new players to have a fighting chance against those with more experience. Thanks to these new techniques fighting is more fun and exciting ! The fighting truly has a immersing and dynamic cinematic feel now ! More enjoyable than any other fighter out there at the moment. Online play is great , I have many matches with no lag so far and plan to play this game online for months to come. All in all this is a must buy game if you are a fighting fan and especially if you have fond memories of 90s Street Fighter, it met and surpassed all my expectations in every area. Even if you don’t play fighting games, the people watching matches between their friends will be gobsmacked with such amazing visuals and audio. This game has such great character underneath all the gameplay too , the visuals and characters are stylised with caricatures of recognisable old favourites in spectacular modern visuals and audio. Your old favourites are breed new life in this title !The Voice actors must be complimented for adding to the experience, both Japanese and English. (You can chose !) Above all it has this series has evolved it’s world famous balanced and addictive gameplay for a new generation without ruining it. This is definitely a step up from most fighting sequels that don’t make much a leap to evolve a series much or mess up their series by changing too much, but Street fighter has rewritten it’s Legend and succeeded without ruining their classic formula. The only thing bad about this game isn’t really found within the game itself , but the official first party PS3 controller. Capcom six button standard arcade fighting games usually suffer on home console standard controllers, which are not suited to them. Both the analogue and d-pad for the official pad aren’t exactly perfect but they work well enough I guess and the button layout isn’t that great for combos either. But it doesn’t seem as bad as I thought it was going to be, it’s more manageable than people make it out. The more hardcore players would probably want to get an arcade stick or more suited controller for fighting games to make their experience complete. But by no means the lack of a special controller or stick would completely ruin the experience, but if you are serious about your street fighting you might want to shell out for one. Other than that this is a top notch game and the best fighting game out at the moment , so give it a try ! Although be warned this is a gaming that requires you to invest evolving skill to get the most enjoyment out of it. This is no button masher. Only frustration may await those who aren’t willing to learn . . . but the graphics and sound will still be just as lovely in your frustration . . . . lol . . . There are tons of extra features to keep you occupied , Capcom has gone the extra mile to bring us a true quality product for fans to enjoy for years. With this title Capcom will lead and encourage the return of the fighting genre, the genre they so boldly pioneered in the 90s. (This is the second coming for beat ‘em ups !) This game will also always have a huge worldwide online population of challengers whose number I doubt will die down anytime soon , because Street Fighter’s popularity has always been huge and well deserved !
