Tivo is no longer the best choice for DVR. Your cable or satellite provider is now the best choice. They have real 2 tuner DVRs that also let you record just as easy as Tivo(some allow you to record/watch on 2 or more TVs) for less than tivo’s monthly charge plus the fee for the cable cards which at Comcast Atlanta is now $1.50 each so that will make Tivo service $15.95, also unlike Tivo they do not charge you $200 to $500 upfront and if something goes wrong with it they just replace it for free regardless of how old it is. You also must understand that Tivo now requires you to sign up for a year before they will allow you to use their service and even if your unit quits working and it is out of warranty you still have to make that same monthly payment until your next anniversary date since the contract is on the unit and it is not transferable. So if you are smart you will forget Tivo and get your DVR free from your satellite or Cable provider. Also Comcast will soon be providing Tivo service(it already does at some locations) and this should be a better cost option if you must have Tivo or if you want the best option where you own your equipment then look at Moxi HD DVR it provides all that TIVO and more with no service fees you get 2 weeks of program guides season pass with or without repeats internet connectivity and an interest free financing plan 500GB upgradable to 6TB at [...] less than tivoXL when you add in lifetime service. Interested go to [...] to see full details. They also have a portable wireless unit that can connect over the internet to your unit so you can take your Moxi with you and view anything that is recorded on your home set.

It does not work with Time Warner cable. Working with two different techs from Time Warner and hours on the phone with TiVo Support.

The TIVO HD is a piece of junk. It’s sluggish, channel changes are slow, and the Internet features work poorly.
What’s worse: I bought it, returned it, cancelled the Tivo service (if you don’t call to cancel they will keep charging you $14/mo!), but they kept charging me. I called to cancel again months later and they want to charge me a $150 early termination fee. For what? They have their hardware back and I’m paying for nothing! Avoid. Go with DirecTV HD DVR!

fingers crossed — so far, so good — Tivo provides the flexibility we need for a busy household. It can probably do more and its features can possibly be more easily accessed — but we haven’t had the time to read the manual. But we are enjoying the features we can use intuitively.

I love my TIVO. This one make a strange noise when it accesses the hard drive.
