Mr.Toshiba’s CEO: I don’t know your name but I know what your company did. I’m a HD DVD owner and I can’t watch movies in HD anymore. There’s no HD DVD new movies since almost two years. Do you send me a Blu Ray Toshiba now? there’s a lot of them to rent, buy, trade. etc.
I bought your HD DVD device here, at Amazon.com you can check it out. Give us a little respect, give us something to redeem your company.
Regards,
Myself

As a HD-DVD and Toshiba fan I held off on getting a Blu Ray player but as everbody around me was getting one I knew it wouldn’t be long before I jumped to the blu ray camp. I waited for this player and I’m glad I did. The design is nice though the remote looks like frankenstien. Loading times are about the same as my HD DVD player, the menus and options make this player easy to set up and the picture quality is excellent!! I’m Watching Ghostbusters on blu ray and it looks amazing. Thank you Toshiba for joining the blu ray camp!! 5 stars!

I’ve always liked Toshiba electronics for a reliable low to mid range product so needless to say I was glad to see them come into the Blue Ray player market. After recieveing it for a sale price online, I couldn’t wait to spin a BD disc to my Toshiba 47″ tv. The first thing I noticed was the loud motor noise coming from this player which never stopped and was distracting during quiet parts of the movie. The other frustration was the remote could not sync with the tv as advertised so I still had to keep both remotes handy. This unit looked nice in my component cabinet but performance was disappointing. I returned it (at my exspense)and replaced it with the ever popular LG-BD390 when it went on sale for black friday. Given that this is Toshiba’s first BD player with no reviews available prior to my purchase, I hope this helps others that may be considering this unit.

I purchased this from Amazon.com on Black Friday (caught it in that small window of opportunity when the price was $79.97). While it doesn’t appear to be a true Toshiba product (its made by Funai, as are Magnavox, Sylvania, Philips and some Onkyo and Denon Blu-Ray players), its still from a proven, reliable source. The load times are quite short, but the unit is a bit noisy while it does the preparation (lots of whirring and buzzing). Blu-Ray playback is great – crisp and clean with no freezing or hiccups that seem to plague many other players (fingers crossed). The remote is large and lightweight and is the same intuitive Funai design found on many other company’s players. The player responds to commands from the remote almost as fast as a DVD player, much better than most Blu-Ray players. The only stumbling point is SD-DVD play back. I own a Toshiba XDE-600 DVD player and its head and shoulders above this Blu-Ray in upscaling image quality. With the pair of them I have the best of both worlds.
While the BDX2000 isn’t the most feature-rich player on the market (no streaming options of any kind) that is of no consequence to me. I don’t plan on using the BD Live feature it does support and have no interest in streaming video. For a simple, solid player I’m very pleased with the price I paid. Basically, watch and catch it on a good sale.
