I wouldn’t buy another Wiindows computer if it came with a 10-year supply of Maine lobsters and Michelob. I bought a Mac laptop, and it’s the best computer I’ve ever had. Period. And I’ll NEVER go back!

My only nit-picking criticism is that the laptop should have a subwoofer. I agree that speakers are better than average, but a hair above tinny even if you try to boost the bass using the control panel. I’ve used a 15″ Toshiba Satellite 5205-S505 with subwoofer before, and the bass response of 5205-S505 is way much better. Again, I’m being picky here.

Despite all the other posts, the speakers do NOT put out any volume. Called tech support and downloaded new speaker drivers to no avail.
The HDMI does not put out any sound so when hooked up to a TV via HDMI there is a picture but no volume, so you have to rely on the computer speakers which are totally inadequate.
Otherwise performs very well for the price.

Having used the feather-weight ASUS 10″ – this 7 pounder laptop is a chore to carry through an airport. However, it can do everything my desk-top can. Get a mouse if you are like me, impatient with those tap-tap-taps on the touch-pad and the disappearing arrow. Since the computer lacks firewire, the Logitech v550 is great since it has a very small receiver adapter which you can leave in the computer. It is very expensive, though.
The computer ships with Vista Home Premium and should by now have been sold with Windows 7 which has been around for over a year. The free upgrade available through Toshiba is good, but who wants to spend hours on clearing and reloading software. Vista has not been as bad as I expected, but it did lock up on me once during the first week of use.

After several months of researching laptops, I finally decided to get this one. It is quite fast, has a crystal clear screen, and has terrific sounding speakers. I was originally planning on using the laptop primarily only on my desk. With its fairly light weight and great speakers, I have instead been using it as a portable media player. I bring it into the kitchen and listen to pandora.com internet radio on it while cooking and I hook it up to my 50″ LCD TV to watch streaming videos on it as well. Having a laptop is very convenient and having this one in particular is great.
