Splits the video signal into three separate components, unlike composite video, which delivers red, green, blue, and black & white detail all as one signal. Separating the color and detail portions of the signal reduces the amount of signal processing performed by the television. This player has played back all regions and formats for me thus far. It is also useful for playing back badly scratched and even cracked discs. An amazing little machine.
