I just ordered this UPS, so it is to early to comment on its abilities as a backup power unit.
The point of this review is to warn potential customers not to install the included power management software, called “UPSMON”. While trying to install it, my Avast Antivirus warned me of Malware in the software.
Apparently, during installation, the software will crate a temporary file. In my case this was called: C:program filesUPSMONis-PQ72T.tmp This file will probably have a similar, but slightly different name each time someone runs the installation. Next, this file was renamed by the software as MailSend.exe, which is when my antivirus recognized it as Malware. So, I cancelled the installation, and proceeded to scan the cd with Avast. Here is the result:
File name: D:Win9xSetup.exe{app}MailSend.exe
Malware name: Win32:Trojan-gen {Other}
Malware Type: Virus/Worm
VPS Version: 081206-0, 12/06/2008
Luckily the software is not necessary in order to use the UPS, so I did not have to install it. Still, I cannot recommend this product. I know this is the cheapest UPS of its kind on the market, but if it has this problem, who knows what other issues it may have? I guess you get what you pay for.

I am using it with Vista. When Vista hibernates the monitoring software (USB connection) looses the connection with the UPS. When you return to your computer you have to “wake-up” the connection. Which is necessary to shutdown the computer when there is a blackout. Running a UPS without the monitoring software doesn’t make sense.
After this wake-up call the UPS starts peeping and you can only reset it by turning the UPS OFF. Of course, you got to turn off the computer as well before doing that.
What is that UPS good for then?
I don’t recommend this UPS at all. I bought this one ( CyberPower CP1350AVRLCD UPS ) at Amazon and it works well.

What more is there to say, The software is easy to use, works with my os, windows xp. I’ve had issues before of ups outlet plugs breaking with different brands… this one appears to use standard power outlets.. much like what you would find in your house…. So I doubt they will break loose from the shell of the ups, mostly metal which helps heat dissipation. All in all a product I can say I am proud of owning.

I have owned this item for a month now. It works great. For the price and protection, this item is great. I owned another Ultra UPS in the past, it worked for several years and it had seen its fair share of surges and protected my pc well
