This product is not worth your money. I plugged it in to the wall outlet and instantly heard a popping noise, followed by smoke billowing from the AC adapter. Extremely poor quality. Save your money and find a similar product you can actually use without having to exchange it.

The only thing I got out of this product was some smoke billowing out. (Needless to add, the product also didn’t work.) Please be careful if you decide to purchase this product!

I bought this to transfer some files from a hard rive of my old computer that went up in flames on me. I’ve had it sitting for nearly two years, and i only recently found out about this sort of thing. (I did not have a computer able to hook up IDE drives to. and was unwilling to shell out 150 bucks to have best buy put it all on disks for me)
It got here really quick, and for its price it does its job. I was a bit annoyed at first when I connected it, only to have my computer after a second or two say it couldn’t recognize it. I rebooted the computer, only to have it not boot past the main screen, so I unplugged the external hard rive and rebooted again. This time it all booted up fine, I plugged it back in before logging in to my account on the computer. This time the computer recognized it, and is transferring data as I type. Its amazingly fast too, 19 gigs in only 20 minuets.
The led light is flashing red as the data transfers so all is working well.
All in all for its price it is great, I don’t intend to use it long term but i imagine it will hold up nicely.

I know my hard drive is functioning because I can attach it internally and view my files.
The USB to SATA cable itself is defunct. I downloaded a drive check utility from Western Digital, connected all the cables, and ran the test.
It gave me a “check cables error.” I tried every USB port on my computer as well as updating my USB drivers for my motherboard.
The mini-CD this came with only has drivers for Windows 98 for a bunch of random products. There is no product documentation or manufacturer information.
This is the worst product I ever wasted money on.

This is a great kit, but you might want to consider investing in a sturdier solution, such as an enclosure with a dedicated supply. The adapter I got with this is dead as a nail – it was 104 days out of the box and it’s already burned out.
