I have only myself to blame for this but if you have SATA HDD this will not work with it. I bought it thinking I could use it with my PS3 HDD but I was mistaken. I just want to make sure others don’t make my mistake.

This is a nice enclosure. I use it for backups and it has been stable. I have transferred roughly 100 GB of data to it so far continuously and it hasn’t had a problem. It comes with a Y-Cable and 2 of my laptops couldn’t see the enclosure unless I had both of the ends plugged for more power. It will run on USB cable, but for some computers it has to have both plugged in. This is kind of a bummer as it takes up 2 usb ports. Although this isn’t really a problem for me as I only plug it when I’m backing up and then disconnect the unit.
Its reliable and keeps the drive cool not much more you can ask for.

I had a Dell which went pffffft on me awhile back, and was afraid that I might be unable to retrieve all the stuff on the hard drive. Went to Radio Shack and bought a GigaWorks hard drive enclosure for $40 that pooted out on me after 4 or 5 uses. I mean, the thing just literally fell apart. So I asked around, did some research, and got good feedback on the Vantec. It works great, seems a lot more reliable and solid than the other one I had, also cost considerably less. I would recommend this product to anyone in need of one of these!

I got this just to retrieve data off a harddrive out of a laptop that went KIA on me… for the price… works as stated… no issues… very easy to install the hard drive and i like the little case that comes with it. The usb cord is a bit odd but works fine… overall… great product. Only downside that i noticed is that the overall construction of this enclosure was a bit flimsy and not as solid as its bigger counterpart which i own as well… but for the price… great product regardless.

This is a nice case. It has a solid, quality feel to its construction, and installing a drive in it is a breeze. My only reservation: beware of bad controller boards. I purchased this as a replacement for a broken case whose hard drive still worked, put the drive in the first case I received, and used it for a day before the case died, exhibiting the same symptoms my old broken case had been (drive spinning up, light on, but nonfunctional in any OS). Luckily, Amazon has a great return policy, and they replaced it for free. The second one works like a charm.
