I have had two drives and both have suffered from loose USB connection.
This appears to be a poor design creating a problem, the rear usb connector is not
secured solidly. I would not recommend a purchase of this product.
Note: No complaint with Amazon

I’ve been a huge Velocity fan for years. It’s great to see a quality product at such a low price. This will go perfectly with my netbook so I can use it more like a second laptop. Installing software on a netbook is a pain without an external DVD drive.

I purchased this Velocity DVD unit to run along with my HP Mini notebook. It’s amazingly simple to use and takes seconds to hook-up. Not much documentation because any moron can use it – and I should know. All necessary hardware is included even a silly little stand to hold the drive upright if you so wish. I was able to install a number of software apps that I needed on my netbook. My only complaint is that it seemed amazingly slow compared to the internal DVD drives I have on my desktops. I’m sure at least 50% of the reason for the sluggish transfer has to do with the restrictions of my little netbook, but I didn’t see much difference when I plugged it into a desktop either. I have no use at the moment to do any DVD or CD writing so I can’t attest to the drive’s apptitute in that arena. All in all, I am satisfied – the unit gets the job done (slowly), is easy to use, very portable and affordable.

The drive works fine if all you want to do is read disks but if you want to write to a dvd forget it. It works fine when it has a standard dvd or cd but as soon as I place a blank the drives goes away and it comes back and away. This cycle repeats enclessly. I changed dvd’s and the same thing happens. Must be picky about the media. I would not recomend this device unless all you want do is read a disk. The manufactures support website is the worst I have seen in my life. Check out their website [...] and you will see that all the support faqs are about registration and installation but nothing about issues. [...]. I strongly recommend you get something else.

Less than 60 seconds from opening the box to uploading pictures from a CD. True plug n play. I have also played an audio CD and opened software from a CD and I’m only using one USB connection. Haven’t tried a DVD yet, so not sure if one USB is enough power for that. Perfect accessory for my Gatway LT 20 series netbook. I would definitely recommend this device.
