Verbatim 320GB FireWire/USB Portable Hard Drive (96527)
I have been completely satisfied with this product. It is everything that it is advertised to be.

I bought this about 6 months ago. Now it does not work. I do not know why. I bought this at $73 which is higher than the current price. Besides, it is out of order. I should have spent more money buying other brand.

Yes, it’s true. This product really is as crappy as they say it is. Total waste of money, it stopped working and thus destroyed all the data it was supposed to be backing up. Works for a few weeks and then just quits, with the blue blinking and clicking just like they say. Unbelievable.

My experience was with a Verbatim 320 GB drive, similar to this one… read on…
Bought this drive for Apple backups. Time Machine on OS 10.5 ran great for about a month, then couldn’t mount the drive. Or, actually, it would mount 50% of the time, then dismount anyway after a few moments.
Sent it to Verbatim for RMA; same unit was sent back. I suspect nothing was done to it but I cannot be sure of course. In any case, same behavior, nothing got fixed.
There are so many other fine units out there (eg, anything made by Seagate — just be sure you update the firmware). Avoid all of these Verbatim external units at all costs, especially given that they seem to not be interested in standing behind their products the way that Seagate and Maxtor do.

It works..for about two weeks. Verbatim will send you another one if you are willing to give them all of your information (and pay for shipping).
Frankly, I wish I had splurged for a nicer hard drive. This product simply won’t last…
