I use this harddrive to do backups for my iMac for several months now, its ultra silent, only when writing data during the actual backup can I hear it. It is always cool to the touch, so it has proper air circulation. I can't rate the software than came with it since I didn't need it.

As soon as I plugged it into my Vista pc, I could barely move the arrow around to reformat it to NTFS. Still without putting any data in it I barely was able to copy 50 or 60 gb into before I gave up on it on my Windows Vista pc. I copied the rest of what I wanted to a 160 Verbatim Smartdisk and finished transferring it on a Windows XP pc. I do not blame the Verbatim- Windows Vista is so controling that any large volume like Verbatim's 500 gb is that much more of Windows Vista's resources to be constantly used- by Microsoft's choice, not mine.
