Bought this drive for Apple backups. Time Machine on OS 10.5 ran great for about a month, then couldn't mount the drive. Or, actually, it would mount 50% of the time, then dismount anyway after a few moments.

Send it for RMA; same unit was sent back. I suspect nothing was done to it but I cannot be sure of course. In any case, same behavior, nothing got fixed.

There are so many other fine units out there (eg, anything made by Seagate -- just be sure you update the firmware). Avoid all of these Verbatim external units at all costs, especially given that they seem to not be interested in standing behind their products the way that Seagate and Maxtor do.

Needed a small portable drive to use with my Dell Mini. Purchased this drive, and it's exactly what I needed. Very lightweight- surprisingly so, in fact. Plug n' play, simple to use. If you're needing something to take out on the road or in the car, I highly recommend it.

Despite the reviews I have read I owned this product and have had no problems. I opted to buy a second. Good value.

I backed up and stored almost 50GB of new graphics in addition to the 150GB I already had. I dropped it accidentally 3 (just 3) times. I lost so much of my work and 2 months later I am still trying to recover. I had some of my stuff saved to DVDs thankfully. I was accustomed to the durability of my Lacie, but I was in need of more space and this was reasonably priced. I understand externals are not balls so I am not surprised mine quit working. It worked just fine, however I STRONGLY suggest purchasing a case along with this drive because accidents DO happen.

I bought the portable 320gb verbatim two months ago and it stopped working a month later. It makes a weird high frequency noise and doesn't mount. I've been always using LaCie products and never had any problems. I bought this unit because it was relatively cheaper but I regret this decision now.
