This product has two major flaws:
1. The ‘ergonomic’ label is only applicable with an external keyboard. Used alone, any ‘ergonomic’ quality is contradicted by the front shelf, which is meant to hold the laptop in place when the stand is at angles greater than 90 degrees. However, the shelf is wide enough (~ 9 in) and high enough (~2 in) and has sharp corners that press into the wrists and can interfere with blood flow to the hands. (Not to mention being very uncomfortable.) The size of the shelf doesn’t really show up in the product photos. Not really possible to unlock it and keep it laid flat, as the laptop slides forward out of the cradle.
2. The stand is not stable from front to back. When a laptop is placed on it and you put your hands on the keyboard, the stand tips forward slightly until it touches down in front. There is no counterbalancing weight to keep the whole thing solid. The wobble action is very distracting.
3. While not a major flaw, the ‘360-degree movement’ is provided not by a neck joint in the stand itself but by four wheels underneath the stand that allow the whole thing to be rolled to another angle. These wheels contribute to the lack of front-back stability.
I like to use a laptop because it allows me to compute in different locations. Being limited to an external keyboard by a less-than-versatile laptop stand seems pointless.
I’ll be returning mine in favor of something that can accommodate two wrists ergonomically.

I like this laptop stand but its mainly to be used on a hard flat surface, I used it one time when I was cooking and looking at the recipe online and this elevated my laptop high enough if I spill something it wont get my PC wet(I rarely used mine). I set on the bed most of the time with my laptop. I bought a lap desk from a local store that I used all the time with a built in light and a mouse pad.

I purchased this item for a staff member in our office, as her doctor suggested it would relieve neck pain she experienced from looking down at the monitor screen of her laptop. She uses a docking station, as well as a second monitor and this stand was deep enough to hold the docking station securely. She is extremely happy with the product and now is able to view both monitors at eye level.

Using on a desk in order to raise screen to eye level. Using external keyboard & mouse.
Others have covered most aspects of this base quite well – only two things to add:
1. I am using this with a VAIO VGN-AW390 model notebook which has an 18.4″ screen. The manufacturer rates this as good for 17″ notebooks and I would suggest that’s a pretty good assessment. I am able to use this for my machine, but just barely. When the screen is open the center of gravity is pretty far back; a bit close to where it would tip over backwards. My stand is located in a spot where the only person that might knock it over is myself, so I don’t have to worry about someone bumping it by accident and tipping it over backward. I probably wouldn’t put anything over a 17″ laptop on this if it were to be in a high traffic area or in any other stability-challenged setting.
2. Several reviews mentioned the front lip blocking access to the front of the laptop. Mine came with a catch where I can slide the catch to the side and the front lip drops down to allow temporary access to the front of the laptop.
Would definitely recommend it.

Excellent product. Does not get in the way of any of the connections on the front or sides of laptop.
